Greg Maddux's Hall of Fame Plaque Won't Have a Braves Logo on It

Close your eyes and picture Greg Maddux. Which team’s hat is he wearing? Probably the Braves, right?

When the 300-game winner is enshrined in Cooperstown this summer his Hall of Fame plaque will not feature any team’s logo. His longtime rotation-mate Tom Glavine will be induced as a Brave. Maddux’s former manager Bobby Cox will go in wearing a Braves’ cap, too. Frank Thomas will go in as a White Sox. Joe Torre’s hat will have an interlocking NY Yankees logo, while Tony La Russa opted like Maddux to go without a one.

Maddux spent 11 years with the Braves, making 363 starts. He pitched for 10 with the Cubs, appearing in 302 games. He also spent parts of two seasons with the Dodgers and Padres. Opting to go without a logo on his plaque is a perfectly reasonable choice by Maddux, but it’s doubtful Braves fans will be too thrilled about his choice.

Since it’s the Hall of Fame, even the logo on the individual team’s plaque found a way to be controversial. Awesome.
