Giancarlo Stanton, as you can see for yourself in the video above, tweaked his left hand swinging during an at-bat against Brett Anderson in the sixth inning of Friday night’s Dodgers-Marlins game in Miami. Stanton stayed in the game, but was in pain. Details about what happened are still scant but he was set to have X-rays taken today.

Here’s what Stanton said, via Fox, after the game:

"“Just on a swing my bat dug into my hand a little bit,” Stanton said. “Didn’t feel the greatest, so just get it checked out and know for sure what’s going on. I think it just kind of got worse and worse (during the game). One of my at-bats prior, but this one was the icing on the cake.”"

The news as of Saturday morning doesn’t sound too encouraging for Stanton. From Ken Rosenthal:

The extent of the injury has yet to be revealed, but it’s a definite letdown for Stanton who leads baseball with 27 home runs. A trip to the disabled list seems reasonable. [Update: ESPN says he’ll be out 4-6 weeks.]

Stanton had been crushing balls on a regular basis for the lowly Marlins and on a pace for 60 in the season. This is also the first year of his massive $300+ million contract, although the big-money doesn’t kick in for a couple seasons.
