Gareth Bale scored on a free kick, after a goalkeeping error from Joe Hart. Wales took a 1-0 lead over England heading into halftime.
Losing to Wales, in isolation, is unacceptable. Not clear what England getting dumped from this group would be. Many had England going far, if not winning the tournament.
Wales advances to the knockout rounds with a win. England, with a loss, would be at grave risk of not qualifying, in a group featuring Wales, Russia, and Slovakia. The group is likely taking three of four teams.
If England can’t recover, there will be second-guessing. Roy Hodgson starting out of form Raheem Sterling ahead of Jamie Vardy or Daniel Sturridge may be the first question.
