It’s hard to think of a career arc — regardless of the sport — anything quite like the once and future king of American soccer, Freddy Adu. Eleven years ago, at the age of 14, he debuted with DC United and shot some Sierra Mist ads with Pele. Today he signed for Finnish club team Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS), his 11th different professional club since 2004. The 25-year-old has played in eight different countries professionally.

Adu’s last stop was a club team in Serbia, where he appeared once before being released in December. The move to Finland, rated the 36th-best league in Europe, is represents a step down in theoretical quality. Adu last played for the U.S. National Team in 2011.

Wherever Adu’s career takes him next, he’ll always have that game vs. Poland in the 2007 U-20 World Cup. (Check the 2:15 mark below.)
