Dan Fouts and LaDainian Tomlinson made speeches during the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame celebration on Sunday. During each of their time on the mic, they urged Chargers fans to vote in favor of a new stadium for San Diego during Tuesday’s election.

During halftime of San Diego’s matchup with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday both Fouts and Tomlinson expressed their feelings on Tuesday’s election.

If approved, Ballot Measure C would allocate funds for a downtown football stadium in San Diego. Fouts, Tomlinson and the Chargers are obviously in favor of that outcome.

California state law requires that any measure increasing taxes must garner more than two-thirds of the vote to pass. Measure C would increase San Diego’s hotel tax, but not increase taxes on San Diego’s citizens.

From recent reports, it seems the Chargers know the measure won’t get two-thirds of the vote, since there’s virtually nothing that could garner that kind of support. But they will use the results of the election to decide whether or not to continue negotiations with San Diego. If turnout and the vote results are strong, the team would have a strong position to negotiate with the city.

Fouts, Tomlinson and former Chargers have been virtually unanimous in their support of the stadium initiative.
