Former Braves Pitcher Tommy Hanson Dead at 29
By Kyle Koster

Tommy Hanson, once one of the top pitching prospects in the Atlanta Braves organization, has died at 29. Hanson fell into a coma on Monday due to “catastrophic organ failure.”
The 6-foot-6 righthander was 49-35 in five Major League seasons, including an 11-4 campaign in 2009 which earned him third place in National League Rookie of the Year voting. He spent last season in the San Francisco Giants’ minor leagues. Back and shoulder injuries prevented him from having the type of career he was capable of, talent-wise.
He also experienced personal tragedy in 2013 when he spent nearly a month away from the Angels due to his stepbrother’s death.
Hanson was well-liked by teammates and fans during his tenure with the Braves. Shortstop Andrelton Simmons was one of many to share his sorrow after the pitcher’s sudden passing.
Very sad to hear about Tommy Hanson. Wish his family and close friends a lot of strength. He was a really nice dude. :/
