Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, Week 6: Keke Coutee, Don't Go Breaking My Heart

Keke Coutee has moved into the NFL and immediately been a sensation. The Texans wide receiver has 17 catches in his first two career games. He did suffer a concussion Sunday night and we won’t know if he is cleared until later in the week, but regardless, he should be on a roster going forward and should be considered a WR3 based on his role in the offense once he’s cleared. He won’t go breaking your heart, he couldn’t if he tried.

Here’s the rest of the waiver wire recommendations:

RUNNING BACKS

Alfred Morris’ (50%) candle has not burned out just yet. Matt Breida left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, and we don’t know his status for next week. If he’s out, Morris is a solid RB2 candidate in San Francisco’s offense. He had 18 carries and three catches last week, posting almost 100 yards from scrimmage.

With Jay Ajayi’s season-ending injury, you have some Philadelphia freedom to pick up Corey Clement (62%) and Wendell Smallwood (12%). I wouldn’t go overboard for these two because you are still looking at

Tampa ain’t been the kind of place to find running back value, in fact it’s bad as hell. But Ronald Jones (34%) has had a bye week and was activated for the first time before the bye, and Peyton Barber has struggled. Jones is a risky start because he hasn’t been productive yet, but the matchup is there against the Falcons, and he should expand his role.

Latavius Murray (54%) could still provide a sneaky one-week starting option if Dalvin Cook is still feeling the pain from the scars that won’t heal. Murray hasn’t been produced yet in Cook’s absence, but the Arizona Cardinals are giving up a league-worst 199 yards from scrimmage to opposing running backs. He’s an RB2 based on matchup if Cook is ruled out again.

Goodbye, Rashaad Penny. Chris Carson returned last week and had a nice game, but Mike Davis (45%) was the 2nd half of the platoon while Penny did not play, and Davis is a flex option based on matchup going forward. Penny, meanwhile, can be dropped in seasonal leagues.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Mohamed Sanu (44%) is in a major matchup play against the Bucs’ woeful secondary.

Chris Godwin (47%) has been a recommendation for a while, and coming out of the bye that doesn’t change. He’s one of the top 40 wide receivers going forward.

Robby Anderson (37%) and the Jets broke out last week, with Anderson catching two deep passes. He’s too inconsistent with rookie Sam Darnold to recommend as a weekly starting option but he merits being rostered to see if their chemistry continues to develop.

Larry Fitzgerald has not been the man you think he is at all so far in 2018.That opens the door for Christian Kirk (20%), who connected with fellow rookie Josh Rosen on a deep touchdown last week. He’s a stash and see if he starts to emerge play.

TIGHT ENDS

Cameron Brate (28%) should be a top 12 tight end start while O.J. Howard is out, has a great matchup this week, and can get you through a few weeks of the tight end wilderness.

I know it’s not much, but it’s the best I can do to recommend Nick Vannett (4%) as a desperation option at tight end if you need someone this week, as Vannett had three catches with Will Dissly done for the year, and plays the Raiders. If not him, then C.J. Uzomah (23%) against the Steelers.

QUARTERBACKS

The sun did not go down on Jameis Winston (50%) after all. In fact, Ryan Fitzpatrick got to face the brutal Bears defense and get benched, and now Winston gets the Falcons’ depleted defense off a bye. He’s a top 12 start, and based on how the offense looked early, if he doesn’t put up big numbers this week you have to wonder if it was the right move.

Mitchell Trubisky (43%) is coming off his six touchdown game and a bye, and provides a decent matchup against the Dolphins. C.J. Beathard (12%) is your desperation matchup play in deep, QB2 leagues against the Packers.

KICKERS

Ka’imi Fairbairn (33%) for the Texans against Buffalo is your waiver pickup. Fairbairn plays in a good offense anyway and should be rostered, but this is the kind of matchup where the Texans may kick plenty knowing they aren’t going against a top offense.

Chandler Catanzaro (4%) will get scoring opportunities against the Falcons.

DEFENSES/SPECIAL TEAMS

PACKERS (55%) vs SF and the SEAHAWKS (38%) at OAK (based on Derek Carr having trouble distinguishing colors) are your recommendations this week.
