Fans Try to Catch Home Runs with Hats at Mariners Game, Learn Hard Lessons

Baseball hats: good for blocking out the sun … not so good for catching home run balls.

That’s the lesson a Mariners fan learned Monday night on a homer to deep center off the bat of Adam Jones at Safeco. Baltimore won 3-2 and are two games back of the second American League Wild Card.

Adding insult to (hat) injury for the fan, Jones was traded from Seattle to Baltimore in what turned out to be a very lopsided deal for Erik Bedard back in 2008.

Oh and it appears that nobody was paying attention because another fan tried to catch a Chris Davis homer with his Cubs hat, only to lose it over the railing in the process. It appears both fans got their hats back via the work of the ushers.
