Eddie Lacy Suffered His Second Concussion as a Pro

Eddie Lacy sustained a concussion during last night’s loss to Seattle, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed in his press conference. This is Lacy’s second season in the NFL — he got one last year when Washington safety Brandon Meriweather launched into a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Lacy’s circumstances are worrisome on several levels: He was wearing the fancy new Riddell helmet intended to reduce collision impact (proving what most people have already surmised, which is that there’s no such thing as a concussion-proof helmet), and the injury is believed to have occurred on a hit that almost looks innocuous by NFL standards:

Lacy will have to be cleared for return by an independent neurologist, and we likely won’t receive any declarative news on his availability for next Sunday’s game against the Jets until late next week. More important than his playing status in real and fantasy football, though, is the dangers of suffering multiple concussions this quickly into a short career, and what that will mean for the rest of his life.
