Drake Davis, Four-Star Wide Receiver With Alabama Offer, is Giving Up Football Season For Soccer

Drake Davis, a four-star 2016 WR recruit from Virginia, is giving up his football season to focus on soccer according to 247 Sports. Davis, 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, is the No. 63 overall prospect on the 247 Composite rankings. He holds scholarship offers from Alabama and Florida State, among others. He has been described as an athletic “freak.”

Nurture vs. nature is the major issue for U.S. soccer. The gulf between “UEFA-licensed coach” and “someone’s dad” remains a massive one. But, soccer being viewed as a viable route to college and beyond by top athletes, who have other options, would be a major step forward.

UPDATE: Davis did camp at LSU a month ago. According to his mother, he does plan to play his senior football season.
