Linfield College defeated Widener University 45-7 in the Division III quarterfinals Saturday afternoon in Chester, Pa. After the loss Widener coach Mike Kelly took the occasion to chastise Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly. Linfield College is located in McMinnville, Ore., about 90 miles away from Eugene, Ore., the location of the University of Oregon, Chip Kelly’s previous coaching gig.

During the week ahead of the playoff game Kelly allowed Linfield to use the Eagles’ practice facility. This apparently didn’t sit well with the losing coach, via Philly.com:

"“Make sure you put in the paper that we thank Chip Kelly and I hope the Seahawks do well tomorrow,” Widener coach Mike Kelly said. “He was helping them out. Maybe somebody in Philadelphia ought to buy him a map so he knows where he lives now. But, go Seahawks.”"

Linfield coach Joseph Smith said he knew Chip Kelly from when both were stationed in Oregon, but he didn’t help him game plan for the playoff game despite posing for a photo that posted to the school’s Instagram account.

"“Well, he really couldn’t,” Smith said, “because of the rules that they have with the NFL. He wasn’t able to come out and talk to the team. He wanted to. He thought about coming to the game today. He might have slipped in. You never know. He’s pretty sneaky with that. But he’s a great coach and we couldn’t have been happier to have him out there.”"

The Eagles host the Seahawks this afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field in an important NFC clash. I’ll go out on a limb and guess Chip Kelly spent most, if not all, of his week focused on that game. Also, it’s doubtful the Widener coach openly rooting for Seattle is such a great idea, either.
