David Stern is retiring on February 1, 2014. That means the 2013 NBA Draft was the final draft of Stern’s tenure as NBA Commissioner. Booing David Stern has been a proud tradition at the NBA draft for years. In recent drafts, Stern has seemed to revel in the jeers. During his last draft he really soaked in the atmosphere, encouraging fans to give it to him one last time.  At one point he joked that the league had to explain to international viewers that “the boo is an American sign of respect.” According to ESPN, Stern announced 839 draft picks in his 30-year career as commissioner.

Update: And here is Stern’s final pick as commissioner. The remaining crowd gave him a standing ovation. And there was as a surprise appearance by the first pick he ever announced, Hakeem Olajuwon. A great end to Stern’s evening and career.
