In a move that deserves attention for its subtle insult and statement of the obvious, a consulting firm told the Big 12 that adding more teams to the Big 12 would make it more likely a Big 12 team was included in the College Football Playoff.

How likely?

"… approximately 75 percent …"

This is according to a story at CBSSports.com, which explains that according to a firm called Consultant Navigate Research, a 10-team Big 12 has a 62-percent chance of putting a team in the CFP in any given year. Adding teams — and, remember, we’re not talking about specific teams here, just teams of any kind — would raise those odds. This is the same essential calculation made by anyone who has ever bought more than one lotto ticket.

Less obviously but just as importantly, the Big 12 stands to earn about another $1 billion by expanding.

"The Big 12 is approximately $9 million per school behind the SEC in annual revenue. Added expansion would close that gap “by half,” according to a source."

The Big 12 meetings are in Dallas this week, but the Big 12 expansion conversation seems far from over.
