Colin Kaepernick Signs Six Year Contract Extension With Record $61 Million Guaranteed

By Jason Lisk

Colin Kaepernick has agreed to a contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple sources, first reported by Bay Area Sports Guy. According to Matt Barrows, it is a six year extension with $61 million in guaranteed money, and worth as much as $126 million. This is the largest amount of guaranteed money in the NFL.

In this case, it pays to be a 2nd round pick instead of a 1st round pick, as Kaepernick was not subject to the fifth year option that the Panthers exercised on Cam Newton. The yearly average value, if the number is $126 million, is right in line with Aaron Rodgers’ deal. The price of quarterbacks is going up. This one will be of interest in several other cities, like Indianapolis, Carolina, Washington, and Seattle.
