Capital One Cup Fall Standings

The fall standings for the 2011-12 Capital One Cup, the premier award for excellence in on-field performance in Division I college sports, have been released and it’s shaping up to be a battle all the way to the last spring NCAA championships.

There is a three-way tie in the men’s standings among North Carolina, which won the NCAA national championship in soccer; Alabama, which claimed the Football Bowl Series (FBS) title; and North Dakota State, which won the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Championship.

UCLA, which won the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship and finished 7th in the final Women’s Soccer coaches’ poll, sits atop the women’s standings just nine points ahead of 2010-11 Capital One Cup champions Stanford.

This is the second year of the Capital One Cup.  Schools earn points based on their teams’ Top 10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches’ polls across 19 men’s and 20 women’s sports as they compete to win the Capital One Cup trophy and a combined $400,000 to fund scholarships for student-athletes. The Capital One Cup winners will be determined at the end of the spring season and honored at the ESPY Awards in July.

Last year the University of Florida won the men’s Capital One Cup and Stanford University claimed the women’s Capital One Cup.
