Today in hypocritical NCAA news: Braxton Miller could be in trouble for promoting Advocare products on an Instagram photo, according to Buckeye Extra. This would be a NCAA violation, for trading on his name as a result of athletic accomplishments. Miller deleted the photo from his own account, and deleted his name from a website that listed him as a “distributor.” Still, we’ll see what kind of violation this constitutes.

Braxton Miller says that he has spoken with the compliance office and “it’s all good”. But an OSU athletic department spokesman told Buckeye Extra that the compliance office had yet to issue a statement on whether Miller’s actions might constitute an NCAA rules violation.

For those that don’t know, Advocare is a series of products, including sports performance drinks in powder form (“Spark” in the above photo) that are sold by distributors. Some might consider it a pyramid scheme, with Braxton Miller at the bottom of that pyramid.

Of course, that might apply to another situation involving Braxton Miller.

You see, if you think you might have somehow heard the name “Advocare” before even though you are not sure what it is, that’s because it is a bowl sponsor. So, people tied to college athletics are in fact getting paid by Advocare, legally, and their name is slapped all over collegiate events. Not only do they sponsor the Texas Bowl in Houston (the matchup between Texas and Arkansas this year) but they also sponsor the Labor Day weekend matchup in Houston, which was LSU-Wisconsin this past season.

So this isn’t a case of a booster or someone wanting autographs. Braxton Miller got caught up with the wrong people, and could be in trouble for making a few dollars (and that’s probably what this was, if at all, for a few powdered drinks). He got caught up with the people that pay the collegiate power brokers millions to advertise their product. Shame on you, Braxton Miller, for getting involved with such a crowd.
