Bracketology Projections, February 21st: The Top of the ACC Becomes Murkier with Duke's Win at North Carolina
By Jason Lisk
Selection Sunday is three weeks away, and we are now in the stretch run to that. Things are coming into clearer focus in some ways, but because of the relative parity, there is still plenty of room for movement. The top seeds are pretty clear cut at the moment: both Big 12 teams in Oklahoma and Kansas, along with the Big East top team (right now, Villanova narrowly over Xavier) and Virginia atop the ACC.
After that, though, there is not much separating the 2-seed line to the 4-seed line. Duke just beat North Carolina this week and are surging (and then lost a tough one at Louisville). North Carolina responded with a big win over Miami. The die is certainly not cast yet on the ACC pecking order, and the same is also true in the Big Ten.
As a reminder, these are projections of what I think will happen on Selection Sunday, and do not reflect my personal opinion of what should happen. In addition, I project future games, and am not just looking at the completed ones. That explains, for example, why Kentucky can actually rise slightly while losing a close one at Texas A&M. I like Kentucky to win the SEC more now than two weeks ago, and a potential road loss to a pretty good team was already included in the projections.
