BMW Championship TV Schedule, Odds, Tee Times: Rory McIlroy Looked Dominant Last Week, can He do it Again?

The FedExCup Playoff field has been cut down to the top 70 in points and for many this is the final chance to improve their ranking and climb into the top 30 for a shot to play in the TOUR Championship.

This week the PGA Tour stops in Carmel, Indiana, where the BMW Championship will be played at Crooked Stick Golf Club. Defending champion Jason Day doesn’t need to win to move on in the playoffs; he enters this week ranked second in the points standings. Day finished tied for fourth and 15th in the first two events and has been playing well to say the least, so it’s fairly safe to assume he’ll be near the top of the leaderboard again this week.

Of course he’ll have to face an extremely tough field, one that includes a very confident Rory McIlroy coming off of his first PGA Tour win of the season. McIlroy came from six strokes back at the Deutsche Bank Championship to win and not only move up to fourth in the FedExCup standings, but jump to third ahead of Jordan Spieth in the world rankings. His putter, which he switched up after Nike bailed on golf equipment, was on fire last week. McIlroy not only lead the field in driving distance, but also putting average. If he can replicate the success he’s had over the last two weeks with the flat stick, he can easily contend this week.

The real question is whether the big names will dominate this week or will we see a great performance from someone outside of the top 30 to make a move like McIlroy and Paul Casey did last week.

My Picks

Once again I’ll try to give you five picks who I think may win this week, including one guy that’s not just straight chalk.

1. Rory McIlroy – McIlroy has to be the overwhelming favorite this week. There is no golfer who is as dominant as McIlroy when he is driving the ball well and putting lights out. (Remember when Rory skipped the Olympics? Remember when Johnny Miller claimed Rory has been in the gym too much?)
2. Jason Day – Having won this event last year, Day knows what it takes. He’s also playing extremely well.
3. Patrick Reed – Reed won The Barclays and finished T5 last week. He was a mere five strokes behind McIlroy when the tournament ended. He’s the FedExCup points leader and not only has a win, but also 11 top 10 finishes this season. (Good sign for the Ryder Cup)
4. Adam Scott – Scott finished just four strokes back of McIlroy in fourth last week. He also finished T4 at The Barclays, with two wins this season, Scott is once again trending in the right direction.
5. Russell Knox – Knox finished a respectable eight-under last week at the Deutsche Bank. It was good enough for a tie for 15th with Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama. He’s won twice this season on the PGA Tour and although he finished 60th at The Barclays, he turned in three rounds in the sixties last week.
