The Baylor Bears beat Iowa State 45-27 to move to 7-0, but it came at a cost. Starting quarterback Seth Russell is out indefinitely, after an x-ray found a fractured bone in his neck. Russell has no return timetable set.

Baylor has a bye week next week. The Bears don’t play until a trip to Kansas State for a Thursday night game on Nov. 5. That results in one game over the next 21 days. Of course, following that stretch are Oklahoma and road trips to Oklahoma State and to TCU. Not to mention a suddenly decent looking Texas to close the season.

An extended Russell absence would place their playoff hopes in Jarrett Stidham’s hands. The highly-touted freshman has seen limited action, completing 85 percent of his passes and averaging 11.82 yards/att.
