Al Jazeera America is Shutting Down in April (No, Peyton Manning Didn't Do it) [UPDATE]

Al Jazeera America, the media outlet that recently went after Peyton Manning and his wife, linking them to HGH, is closing its doors in April.

The recent blockbuster report on Manning included the names of other athletes, and two of them – baseball stars Ryan Howard and Ryan Zimmerman – have filed suit against Al Jazeera. Manning has not. It doesn’t appear as if any of that had an impact on the media outlet closing down.

From the New York Times:

"Al Jazeera America went on the air in August 2013 after it bought Al Gore’s Current TV for $500 million. It promised to be thoughtful and smart, free of the shouting arguments that have defined cable news in the United States over the last decade. But meaningful viewership never came, with prime-time ratings sometimes struggling to exceed 30,000 viewers."

It’s unclear if Jim Nantz, while calling Broncos-Steelers Sunday, will mention this.

[UPDATE: Peyton Manning was made aware of this development. Here’s his comment.]
