Illinois State associated head coach Torrey Ward was among five people killed in a private plane crash outside Bloomington, Illinois, returning from Monday night’s NCAA Championship Game in Indianapolis, according to a report from CBS’s Gary Parrish. ESPN’s Jeff Goodman also tweeted out the news Tuesday morning.
Ward played at UAB and coached previously at Jacksonville State and Ole Miss. He joined Illinois State in 2012.
His last update on social media included a picture of the plane.
The Chicago Tribune reported the plane left Indianapolis at 11 p.m. and encountered heavy fog. It has only confirmed two names on the flight so far.
