Shamarr Bowden of East Carolina Punched Konner Tucker of UTEP, Suspension Imminent

Shamarr Bowden was providing “offensive punch” for the East Carolina Pirates a month ago, and went with the traditional type this weekend against UTEP. Bowden attacked Konner Tucker with two vicious punches on the ground, while his teammate Marshall Guilmette hangs from the rim after a follow dunk.

Bowden was arrested last April on gun charges, and suspended from the team at the time. He will likely be facing additional discipline once the conference reviews this one and sees him connect with that punch to a player on the ground.

UTEP got the last blow in, when McKenzie Moore drilled this three pointer at the buzzer.

Well at the very least I think we – the proud white members of the commentariat – can agree that this one incident makes us all square with blacks for the whole slavery and segregation thing.

If the stigma of the heavily-tattooed athlete being wild and crazy still exists, Shamarr Bowden is shooting down that unfair stereotype while also shooting his way into the hearts of East Carolina fans with his play on the basketball court.

Nah, I was more driving at if some idiot white dude had done that to an unsuspecting non-white dude the charge would get dangled. But it never seems to work the other way for some reason. If the law is on the books I’m all in favor of using it whenever applicable – black, white, green or purple.

There was apparently an elbow thrown at the other end of the court, but that obviously doesn’t make it right.

As an ECU alum, this is utterly embarrassing. This guy has been nothing but trouble, and at this point should be kicked off the team. There is, literally, no excuse for what he did.
