Harlem Globetrotter Darnell Wilks Shattered a Backboard in Ecuador [Video]
All, International Basketball, Video November 29th. 2012, 2:14pm
Darnell Wilks played college basketball at the University of Cincinnati, where he earned an invite to the NCAA dunk contest. After finishing at Cincy in 2011, Wilks was drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters. During a recent stop in Ecuador, Wilks destroyed a backboard. Now, if this happened in a major American stadium, they clean up the glass and wheel out another hoop. Wilks breaking this backboard looks like the equivalent to Benny busting the guts out of the baseball. Now, they can’t play no more.

I didn’t realize they actually trotted the globe…based on the ACC-like attendance, I can’t imagine they’re in the black on this road trip.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
Always felt it would be super awkward to see them in person. Loved them on Futurama though.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
Guessing that was staged. Still, it looks cool.

It was almost the perfect crime, but you forgot the one thing: rock crushes scissors…but paper covers rock. And scissors cuts paper. Kif, we have a conundrum. Search them for paper. And bring me a rock.
/has nothing to do with what you said…but like zapp brannigan needs an invitation

Are we gonna get a post about Titus Young intentionally sabotaging the Lions offense?
November 29th, 2012 at 2:25 PM
sounds good to me…as long as we stop calling singers, rappers and punk bands ‘musicians.’

Got rooked into taking my wife’s granddad to see them. Since I wasn’t paying, we sprung for courtside seats. It was… about what you would expect. (As an aside, made me think courtside seats for an NBA or big college game would be a worthwhile splurge once or twice.)
There was a guy who played for the “generals” who was obviously great at basketball, and had to clearly tank in the second half for the “comeback.” My main takeaway from the game was how much it must suck for him to do that night in and night out.

When will the outage begin at actors/actresses who begin to sing for a living as well and singers who become actors/actresses? Fuck those people. Pick one! Their taking other actors/actresses and singers jobs.

It’s like calling Tim Tebow or Mark Sanchez “quarterbacks”.

old commenters saw the most famous lineup…meadowlark, curly. maybe even at the cow palace. then watched the cartoon
November 29th, 2012 at 2:32 PM
Doesn’t Swift count as singer/songwriter though at least?
Still kind of hope one of the guys she dumps just for the publicity ends up murping her.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:32 PM
to be fair…singing is just acting like youre a real musician, so is it really that different?
November 29th, 2012 at 2:33 PM

Wilks was drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters.
Good one, CRM.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:34 PM
speaking of music- does anyone have a record player that they like? i hear vinyl is the sh*t, and want to pick one up.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:34 PM
Exactly, just because you are famous as a singer/actor doesn’t mean you can act/sing.

Shatner’s version of Common People is better than any song recorded by the following bands:
The Decemberists
My Morning Jacket
Sleighbells
Mumford and Sons
Florence Henderson and the Machine
Edward Sharpe and the Refrigerator Magnets
The Avis Brothers

MP, I do. There are some variables that you need to be aware of. First, you can just get a modern/new one but from what I’ve checked a lot of those suck. They prey upon dumbfuck hipsters and old people. The former is too dumb to appreciate sound quality and the 2nd is too geriatric to appreciate it or discern the quality of their Lawrence Welk vinyls.
I got an old radio shack one (realistic?) from the early 80′s, had some old speakers and a master stereo to run it through. I cant recall the name at the moment. You also have to be very careful about the cost of needels and possible the belts. I have a web site at home with a private guy who’s an expert on needles and has contacts for the replacements for every brand. I can dig that site up for you.

The new Sony turntables that are just the same as the ones from the 80s and 90s are fine, usually around eighty bucks.

November 29th, 2012 at 2:42 PM
preamps, speakers and cables are just as important to sound quality than the turntable and needle.

I just have the lp player up in my attic where I do minor projects and stuff. I am not a hardcore audiophile though. Jack White bought a company and they make some good lp for a lot of bands now. The good new ones are nice and heavy b/c they are better materials.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:44 PM
speakers are important to sound?
November 29th, 2012 at 2:44 PM
I will just share that Ecuador is a strange place.
Flight got diverted to Guayaquil. Was taken by bus to what we were told was the nicest hotel in the city. Between the airport and the hotel we got to drive through a slum. One block is full of metal-shuttered storefronts with sewage on the side of the street. Next had a Bentley, Porsche, and Mercedes dealership.
Was in Cuence for the 4th of July. One of the guys we were hanging out with got “drafted” into the military. And by drafted I mean a military truck showed up and collected everyone between 18 and 25. Fucking strange man.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
to quality of sound, absolutely.
i feel like tihs was sarcastic tho.

I was just thinking if you replaced “record player” with “adolescent boy” the tone of their posts wouldn’t change much.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
So like, how to you steal music from filthy worthless musicians and play it on vinyl? Is there a grooveshark app or something?
November 29th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
spencer, you know where that PNC bank is by NW corner of Mayfield/Warrsneville? Across the road there is this tiny business, one guy, a Mr. Wizard. He’s a crazy little dude who wears a lab coat like a pharmacist but he can fix anything.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
Jason McIntyre thinks Ecuador has a perfectly fine socioeconomic structure.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
once read a story about audiophiles who go as far as having an advisor come to the house to analyze the room setup and pile of carpeting for acoustics

you are a f*cking butthole.
MMJ/Neil/Dwight are the reasons i want vinyl. SCRIPTY- what’s that site? i want something good, but i dont want to have replace a bunch of stuff.

Standardize on 12 gauge speaker wire and get some good banana plugs. One of the cheaper ways to help get better sound.

November 29th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
Cabo was odd in that respect.
I used to know a music producer who had the black egg crates fronted with black acoustic panels in one of his rooms. Not the studio, either.

Its comments like that makes Ben Roethlisberger rape your women.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:54 PM
He raped someone in the deep south, that’s legal.
November 29th, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Never did figure that out. We told his dad about it and he just bribed someone to get the kid back.

What I’ve always wondered about Gilligan’s Island is why the movie star and millionaires would go on that shitty boat. Couldn’t they have found a nice yacht to rent for the day?
