Hank Williams Jr. Called President Obama a “Muslim” Who “Hates the Military”

Hank Williams Jr. took the stage at the Iowa State Fair, with some of his rowdy friends where in attendance. He did not compare President Obama to Hitler this time, though he did claim the POTUS was a Muslim who hates the military, farmers and America.

Following the song “We Don’t Apologize For America” a chant of “USA, USA” broke out amongst the crowd. Williams smiled, telling the crowd that he was their mouth piece and adding:
“We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the US and we hate him!”
The cheers that followed were loud and enthusiastic.

Clearly, he’s aiming to write the theme for FOX News’ 2012 Election Coverage.

People need to quit with the Muslim shit, it’s getting old. So, too, is the extreme name calling. How can you take anything seriously when they keep calling Obama a Nazi Muslim Commie? After a while it gets numbing. And Obama can’t even get the same respect Bush got. Obama is setting up shooting sprees while Bush rigged the 9/11 thing, Obama is small potatoes in that one.

As someone who is more than a bit right-leaning, Hank and his followers make me sick. There is plenty to not like about Obama’s presidency and I don’t agree with almost anything he says. But, if your going to attack someone, at least get your facts straight. Not one thing Hank said above is even remotely true. I’m not an Obama fan by any stretch, but if you think he “hates America” or is a Muslim, then you are in fact an idiot.

Look, I’m all for freedom of speech and this is within the realm if that. However, hate is such a ugly and strong word, especially coming from the mouth of someone with a strong following like Hank. Regardless of your political views, you should avoid that word in a public setting because it gives power to the nutsos out there who go about their crazy ways.
It’s a shame too because Hank seems like a decent guy but people get caught up in the ugliness that is politics and let themselves go.

As an Iowan, I can’t let this stand. Recall that Iowa was the state that launched Obama to the Democratic nomination.
That said, as a whole the state fair crowd probably leans slightly toward the rural, “low information” voter as they say, and the subset of that group that would attend a Hank Williams Jr. concert…well I think that tells you all you need to know.
