Roulette Wheel in Vegas Comes up 19 Red Seven Times in a Row
Place: Las Vegas
Hotel: Rio
Odds of it happening: 1 in 114 billion
Beyond the Bets found a photo tweeted by a poker pro that showed the run on 19. Odd that 20 black came up four times in six spins, too. My math skills have gotten foggy lately, but let’s say you had two $1 chips on 19 the first time it hit. The payout for that is $70. If you let that ride the next six times it landed on 19 … you could have won a lot of money. [Beyond the Bets]

my wife had a friend over. she brought white wine, which was kept in the fridge to keep cold. because i’m not sure how fast it goes bad, i am drinking half a bottle this morning
/little breakfast
//typing badly

that’ll happen when you hate stats.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Just for fun:
1st win: $70
2nd win: $2,450
3rd win: $85,750
4th win: $3,001,250
5th win: $105,043,750
6th win: $3,676,531,250
That sounds like just enough to piss me off that I’m not now drinking all day. Speaking of drinking all day – the US Open was spectacular. I know you were all curious.

there was a legendary story of someone who had tis kind of crazy run happen to them, but they were so timid with their bets, not thinking it would continue, that they didn’t win much
June 19th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
I would have walked out with $2,500 and called it a successful night….and then blown half of it at the bar on booze and whores.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Pssh…who bets dollars?
June 19th, 2012 at 11:28 AM
If you put you chip betwen teh 19/20 you won 12/15 times
June 19th, 2012 at 11:28 AM
I’ve played a ton of roulette in Vegas. I’ve never seen anything more than 3x in a row. I’ve seen the whole board all black or all red (I think it’s like last 15 spins) just a few times. However, if you play for a few hours you’ll get a streak of 8-10 in a row of a color that cleans a lot of people.
I hit a $20 on the zero/double zero once in Windsor by a spinner (?) who I’d noticed hit tons of zeros. Most I’ve won in a bet in my life (not saying much).
June 19th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
why did this happen now and not when i’m in vegas next week?
June 19th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
So, the airport lounge was quite luxurious?
June 19th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Now that is fuckin crazy. That said, i love roulette. Hit pretty healthy a couple a weeks ago at the Cleve’s new casino.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:29 AM

Probably because the second anyone references numbers you condescendingly and dismissively call them “nerd” or “stathead.”
June 19th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
the more you spend on the booze the less you have to spend on the whores
June 19th, 2012 at 11:31 AM
Pssh…who bets dollars?
In roulette, tons of people. If you are playing the inside of the board you get roulette specific $1 chips. I’d venture 90% of the bets on the inside are in $1 increments, at least.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:31 AM
did you happen to check out the chipping area on 17?
June 19th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
I never play roulette. Don’t have a betting system for it. Anybody have one? Or it just a feel thing?
Most I’ve ever won in a casino was actually on the slots, as sad as that sounds, but we do it every time. Attack the high $ slot machines. Everybody you’re with puts $100 in and do a max spin(s).

And I would rather play craps any day over roulette. 6pm in Vegas on a Friday with lots of drunk people at a table = the best.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Wow. that seems off. Like wayyyyyy off. And no one cashed in on it, or that would have made news. Letting a $1 ride would have been substantial.
And in substantial, I mean like $8.23 TRILLION dollars.
Even if you pulled half back each time, it would have been slightly over $130 Million.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Always tip the workers after a big hit. I once hit for a few hundred to cap off a massive winning spree and I tipped a Vegas table worker. She had to call her pit boss over to before accepting a big tip. That suprised me.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:35 AM
Yup. There’s no way this happened legally. It’s Vegas, so nothing surprises me.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
Roulette isnt a game where people let much of anything ride on the inside of the board, so I am not sure how that applies here at all. If you hit a win I’ve seen people leave maybe 10% of their win stay on the same #.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
That 3.6 Billion above is only for 6 wins. The 7th makes it 8.23 TRILLION. Pretty sure that bets would have been nixed after the 4th win to get to $3m…
June 19th, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Roulette workers spin the wheel all the time, regardless if there is nobody playing. I’d venture a worker was having fun showing how good he can hit something if he wanted to his friend also working the table.
By my estimate, a spinner could hit a groupig of 6 numbers with about 70-80% liklihood.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Will they call off bets like that? I’ve been to Vegas a bunch, but gambled maybe 3-4 times, so I really have no idea.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Ha. Well done.
i’m fairly buzzed. and working. white wine has alcohol in it
June 19th, 2012 at 11:39 AM
I would have done the exact same thing
June 19th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
I think I would have done the same thing, but left the original $70 just to see how many more times it happens. No way I leave $2,500 out there for the third time.
1) Lots of drunk people. The concession stand had people standing outside at opening and when they opened and announced no beer until 10:30, I thought the crowd was going to burn it down. Each morning we started at the Safeway a couple blocks away drinking handmade bloody marys and two buck chuck to catch a decent buzz before entering.
2) The hillside at the green on hole 8 was very steep and had lots of long dead grass. Literally dozens of people ate shit going down that hill, especially with concessions and restrooms immediately across 8 down the hill.
3) Very hilly course. The first tee is probably a few hundred feet above the low end of the course.
4) Watching it up close reminds me of just how different a golf game is between what I do on a Saturday afternoon and what they do.
5) Hole one was ridiculous. On Sunday afternoon there was a cold, wet, heavy air and the hole was playing 530+. Colsaerts hit a drive fucking 330 and still had 200 in.
6) Watched a lot of 17, but did it from the fairway to watch approaches in.
7) The biggest roars I heard over the weekend (non-Tiger) were for Hossler. He was a feel good story and I was pulling for him, but absolutely looked like a huge fucking tool.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:42 AM
there is nothing as fun as clearing a day to get drunk…no worries, start in the morning, blades and fast cars at your beck and call
well done ben
June 19th, 2012 at 11:42 AM
I never play roulette. Don’t have a betting system for it. Anybody have one?
Generally you have black/red, high(1-18)/low(19-36), even/odd, columns, or thirds (1-12,13-24,25-36). Generally one of these might be due to hit and you can play them on the inside, outside or both. Obviously this is all chance but I’ve done this forever and done okay. It requires some patience and sobriety however.
I would say:
-Play at a full table so it slows the pace and you can relax and get a good table vibe.
-Or, look for a worker who can hit zero’s and bet the zeros when the table is really bet down heavily.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
I might’ve hung out at that hill all day and laughed my ass off while people rolled to the bottom.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
oh yea…wish this translated on TV better. same thing with augusta…the elevation just doesn’t show well on TV.
the impact sound the pros make is just unreal. it’s beautiful.
i dunno which is more humbling…watching a guy four inches shorter that weighs about a buck fitty max hitting it farther than you could ever imagine or seeing the bigger golfers hit it even farther.
i can imagine colasaerts was just insane in person.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
Thanks Ben. Hope you had a great time.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
I would have done the exact same thing
before i was married i looked at win as a man/woman thing. men drink only red, women drink both
since i don’t have any testosterone left (45yo), i drink white wine as a default, but i don’t worry about macho anymore. i have the weakness of reading the labels on what it’s supposed to taste like, and when they break outthe grapefruits, peaches and burnt toast, plus it’s cold for the summer, i let myself…but feel the need to explain
June 19th, 2012 at 11:47 AM
He was 15 yards longer than second (Cabrera) and Cabrera was 15 yards longer than third. On the first tee on Sunday, we had a good idea where the majority of drives were landing and when Colsaerts hit a lot of us missed it and had to spin around because it was fully 50 yards beyond where some of the others were landing.
This. Times a million. I’ve never had a swing sound that good and I heard it over and over and over. We spent some time at the range watching guys warm up and you would hear it ten times in thirty seconds.

June 19th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
ive mentioned this story before, but the most insane thing ive ever seen on a golf course was luke donald warming up. watched him hit probably a dozen shots and if they put the protracer on it, i think all dozen would form one single line…they were all on the exact same trajectory with the same shot shape. just insane…he hit three of his previous shots already on the green that’s how dialed in he was.
but yea…colasaerts is a BAD BAD man. dude’s fun as hell to watch on euro tour events since he just blasts it all over the place.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
The table max would have prevented the exponential growth everyone is fantasizing about. You would have probably been stuck at a $1000 on the number – $36000 payout.
/still not shabby

Good opening to a porno
she has some fine friends, but this one is only half fine
June 19th, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Thanks, fun to relate them. Also, because Sunday was especially drunk and the parties in the hotels were awesome, I didn’t leave until Monday afternoon and it was the greatest decision I had made all week. I can’t imagine trying to leave either Sunday night or early Monday. The airport was still a shitshow even late Monday, LOTS of people going standby because they missed their flight by 5 hours.
The first six holes were a nightmare. I’m not good, but there is no way I do better than double on any of them unless I hole out or chip in. Furyk and McDowell making a mess of the end of 18 was rough to watch.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Like someone said, I can’t imagine anyone was actually playing at this table. It was the Rio on a Monday night. There may have been some poker players playing table games (due to WAOP), but doubt this table had any action.
Yes they will. There’s a table maximum. In order to get that bumped you need to get permission from the higher ups and what not.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
I did assume such, but I waited on someone to comment before I told the story, which you did. i should’ve just wrote a 4,000 word essay post right off the bat.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:56 AM
ive mentioned this story before, but the most insane thing ive ever seen on a golf course was luke donald warming up. watched him hit probably a dozen shots and if they put the protracer on it, i think all dozen would form one single line…they were all on the exact same trajectory with the same shot shape. just insane…he hit three of his previous shots already on the green that’s how dialed in he was.
does this mean that pressure means a lot? or else he’d hit those during play, not practice
June 19th, 2012 at 11:56 AM
Damn. Pato is a bomber too. Love watching that guy play. Fast and aggressive. That would’ve been a fun group.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
What was the bee situation like at Olympic Club?
June 19th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Yes and no. For a pro, hitting most iron shots is like a 15′ putt. They might miss it the first time but give them the same shot 10 times in a row and they’re going to make it happen.
June 19th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
i should’ve just wrote
yes
a 4,000 word essay
no
June 19th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
i love these suggestions.
yea, the blades are suggested for +6-7, but the 59′s with only a half cavity worth of weight moved to the perimeter are good for 13′s. the fuck? ive hit both and wouldn’t say one is more forgiving than the other…they were nearly identical*.
*identically AWESOME, for what it’s worth
June 19th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
It’s the clicking sound a blade makes on a perfect swing off the sweet spot. Too bad we will never here that off our best swing in our life. Beautiful thing that is.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
I think it’s amazing when a pro grouping, all 2-3 players in the group hit their drives to an area the size of a small blanket. 285 yards off the tee, proper side of the fairway. All within a pace or two.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
he’s fairly freakishly accurate in play too…but yea, pressure and not hitting the same club over and again. shit like that.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
heading out there with the wife for a week, first real vacation since our honeymoon two years ago. staying at the tropicana, hitting up blue man group and absinthe, plan on many bars and buffets.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Nonexistent. It was a little cool, especially Sunday. Also, I didn’t really want to bring too much work talk on a vacation.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
i will…oh yes…i will.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
What was the bee situation like at Olympic Club?
i can tell you that my wife, a whole foods marketing boss, is dressed as a bee today for a kids’ craft session at her store. they know bees, and honey, and the vanishing of said creatures, and how important they are to our food chain. we have a movie in our home, called the vanishing of the bees
/haven’t watched it
June 19th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
I just cannot have blades in my bag. It’s fine when I’m playing well but I’m gonna get a lot of “look at this guy” stares when I’m playing poorly.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:03 PM
Mines more of a “whoosh.” I get the big divot with my wedges though. Love picking those clods of grass up after a good shot.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Played roulette at the Rio, group of friends I was with we all put a $25 chip on red 23, hit it! We were going nuts, high-fiving and being stupid.
The “bosses” came over to the spinner and made her change the roulette ball.
and yes, people do play dollars all the time, on the outside, red/black or certain number groups, etc.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
someone who gives a “look at this guy” stare based on their club preference is a dickbag and you shouldnt give a shit what they think to begin with. and if you’re playing poorly, does it really matter if you have a little extra forgiveness? im not sure…
ive been playing blades for a year and noticed absolutely no difference in actual legitimate performance compared to my cavity backs. bad shots are bad shots.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
5 and 20 are two of my numbers. I COULD HAVE BEEN RICH!
June 19th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
does this mean that pressure means a lot? or else he’d hit those during play, not practice
I’d add that the range is perfectly flat and the pro courses flat lies are an anomaly.
/team pathitic on shots with the golf ball below your feet.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
you more of a swinger or hitter?
i LOVE picking up my divots, esp with wedges. perfect for making fun of a buddy’s mother’s unkempt pubic region.

likewise.
/also team fuck bunkers
//heh…fuck bunker
June 19th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
Agree with all of this…but maybe I’ve given that look to other people one too many times?
I’m kind of a switter. Backswing is a bit rough but my swing is smooth. My best asset is hand action at the bottom of the swing so I still power down and through it (hence the divot).
You?
June 19th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
plan on many bars and buffets.
Havent been to Vegas in a few years but I’ve always endorsed the Paris breakfast/lunch buffet as a great contrast to the dinner buffets that bog you down at night.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Expert move.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:22 PM
everyone’s a hybrid of both, but i trend more towards hitting. this is the position im trying to get after impact.
i like the less active hands with hitting, but when i get lazy or rush with my swing, it’s bad news right now. when my swing’s been working this year, best aspect is probably at transition. really creating that stretch between the fired hips and torso and create a good bit of lag.
i know im leaving a little clubhead speed on the table by not taking advantage of my long arms with a swinging method, but im definitely not lacking for distance and have really tightened up my shot dispersion esp on misses.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
the impact sound the pros make is just unreal. it’s beautiful.
it sure is. i may go on the range and just swing and base it on sound.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:27 PM
it’s how i judge bunker shots…the good ones have a distinct, crisp thump.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
spencer, ritty, any other golfers:
I’m a pretty shitty and infrequent golfer (If I break 100, I’m happy). But I have twin 5 year old daughters and I want to get them into golf. I don’t want to break the bank on getting them some clubs, but also don’t want to find myself buying a new set every few months. Any suggestions? I’m looking into golf lessons for the 3 of us and I assume the local pro would be able to do that all at once since we are, for all practical purposes, virtually all beginners.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:37 PM
nathan…first step would be buying them a kid’s sand wedge and taking them to a practice green to learn how to chip and hit the ball at a target. they’re not expensive…you can get em fairly cheap.
then introduce the longer clubs gradually.
id be careful about an instructor teaching all three of you and you should talk with them before scheduling a lesson. kids and adults are taught very differently, let alone women and men, but whatever you do def pay attention so you can help the kids out when they’re away from the teacher.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Nathan: 5 iron, 7 iron, PW, and 3 wood to start for the youngsters. That way when they improve you aren’t exactly pissing money away. Go to local golf shop and look at used clubs and bags. You can find cheap sets.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:38 PM
You probably want to put a putter in the rugrats’ bag as well.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:39 PM
perhaps we should rephrase this considering the sandusky post above…
June 19th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
I still look at used irons first when i look to upgrade. I will never find any shame in this. It’s ridiculous the deals you can find on gently used irons.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
i think the only clubs in my bag that i bought new were my wedges…nothing else cost more than $150 (granted i got my irons from my roommate for a hybrid, a bluetooth and buying pizza one night).
i just can’t afford to buy new clubs and still golf.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Thanks good advice all around. I think I’ll opt to watch/listen to them getting lessons so I can reinforce.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
np…and obviously the most important thing is to make it fun for them. positive reinforcement.
June 19th, 2012 at 12:57 PM
“positive reinforcement.”
Yeah, with them being daughters instead of sons, this comes very easily. I’ve often remarked to my wife that I’m a much better sports dad because I have daughters and not sons. I would struggle not to go full blown little league dad with boys, but my girls have me wrapped around their fingers.
June 20th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
first of all I am a dealer in vegas the most any casino will let u bet straight on a number is $200 and they let Charles Barkley bet $300 straight so U can not keep rolling it over into billions. Also there is no one at the table i can make the results board look like that if i wanted the rio got exactly what they wanted alot of ink. it never happened trust me
