DeMarcus Cousins Wanted to Fight Blake Griffin, Then Whined to a Reporter That Griffin is “Babied” by Referees
Blake Griffin 1, DeMarcus Cousins 0.
Griffin scored 14 points, including six during a crucial 4th quarter stretch and the Clippers rebounded from a loss to the Lakers by beating the Kings, 93-85. Things got chippy between Griffin and Cousins late. Cousins fouled out, and according to Sam Amick of SI.com:
He could be seen jawing with Griffin from the team’s bench before heading toward the locker room, then pointing toward the tunnel as if to invite him to the worst kind of postgame party.
Griffin, who was assaulted by Jason Smith of the Hornets a couple weeks ago, stayed above the fray and got in a subtle dig: “That’s something that will hopefully go away as time goes on for him.”
Cousins refused to talk about the incident, but went off on the league and referees going easy on Griffin.
“He’s babied,” Cousins told SI.com after the Kings fell to the Clippers 93-85. “He’s the poster child of the league. He sells tickets, but he’s babied. Bottom line.”
Babied by whom, Cousins was asked.
“The refs, the league — period,” he continued. “He gets away with [everything]. He taunts players. Nothing is done. He’s babied.”
Cousins is a (talented) punk. I’m looking forward to the rematch Saturday night at Staples.

Start making highlight reels, DeMarcus and you too will be babied.

I’m not a DeMarcus fan but he’s 100% right about Blake (Cousins is also a better all-around player than Blake). Blake’s a soft punk with a limited game. Whenever he gets called for a foul, he glares at the ref and acts like a bitch.

To be fair, many players that are in the spotlight do this like Lebron, Wade, and Tim Duncan who is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer at this skill.

Agreed.

Blake is also part of the immature, clueless club. He’s been welcomed by President Dwight Howard
April 6th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Can we add Sid the Kid and Evgeni to that list, too, Mantis?
April 6th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
love Russillo torching Dwight Howard on the SVP radio show just now

Yes. Fuck the penguins. I don’t blame Tortorella for blasting the penguins and their whining stars last night after the game

Superstars get superstar calls in the NBA. I however am not a fan of Griffin writhing on the floor like a bitch when he gets fouled hard. You’re okay dude. Get up and keep playing.

if people hate KG and don’t hate Blake, they can go to hell
April 6th, 2012 at 1:15 PM
I also revile the Queens as a Warriors fan, but he is spot on. In the few games I’ve watched the Clippers, Blake simply tries to bulldoze right through people or use them as step-ladders. He is constantly leading with his off-hand/elbow and does stare down opponents on a regular basis, which would get called as a T for a good number of lesser known players. Unfortunately the NBA is about making money, and Blake’s dunks generate a lot of exposure and revenue and excitement so why would they want to do anything about that?

Go get em DeMarcus!
April 6th, 2012 at 1:17 PM
Both dunks on Gasol were fouls..first one over the back and the second one he elbowed Gasol in the face. He can jump high but anything outside of 5 ft and he is terrible . He is the embodiment of style over substance.

Supreme Commander LeBron James wants Dwight to get the hell out of his chair
April 6th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
I was going to hell way before Blake got into the NBA, so it’s a moot statement.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
The lead highlight of a game the Clippers lost was Blake committing an offensive foul while dunking and then staring down a guy he just elbowed in the face.
I don’t see anything changing.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Don’t worry eventually gravity, the court and his knee will take care of the problem.

It’s a fascinating phenomenon when the opposing teams are the ones who are constantly whining about us, and yet the pens players are the whiners. Then again, 99% of America hates all things Pittsburgh so we should accept the heel turn.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:24 PM
I have to agree with Cousins 100% here, but as someone said earlier, superstars get superstar calls. The NBA has decided it’s going to make Griffin the poster-boy of the league (even though he can basically only dunk and shoot from the elbow at this point of his career) and the refs will act accordingly.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:24 PM
I agree with Cleet. But do big players make big plays?
April 6th, 2012 at 1:26 PM
Also Cousins is somewhat quietly becoming one of the better players in the NBA, along with Greg Monroe. If one of those dudes played on Chicago or LA, we’d be sick of them right now.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:26 PM
Hopefully as opposed to later
April 6th, 2012 at 1:27 PM
I read somewhere – I believe it was Thoreau – that “Real Niggas Do Real Things”. So maybe that’s it.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Blake does he what he does while making a basketball play, and to everybody; I can respect that. KG takes cheap shots at Euros.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Tom Brady
April 6th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Wow, fucked that one up…
Hopefully sooner as opposed to later.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
But if they’re Euros does it really matter? I mean, they’re Euros.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
yoiu know what would take care of this whole mess….ban dunks.
i was sickened when i saw the mcdonald’s AA game a week or so ago ,and really anytime there are highlights of top players/prospects…..of about seven shabazz highlights, five were dunks that were not contested.
so what??

I don’t believe it’s just the Pens players. It’s also comments from Mario Lemieux talking about “walking away from the NHL” when discussing hits taken by Crosby. This coming from the guy who said nothing of the same when Matt Cooke ended the career of Marc Savard having already taken plenty of cheap shots on other guys in the league. He also had no problem with his wing man Ulf Samuelsson doing the cheap shot/dirty work like cutting short Cam Neely’s career. Tortorella was calling the organization hypocritical. Is he wrong? If you’re going to take shots, expect them to be taken back.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:45 PM
Spot on. Blake’s a good highlight, but I’d take quite a few PFs over him.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
I have a man-crush on Blake Griffin
/don’t judge me
April 6th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
He also somehow never gets T’d up when he stares down people after dunking on/in the general vicinity of them.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
His second dunk on Gasol was a blatant forearm to the face.
Of course, Pau owned Blake down the stretch, and the CLOLippers lost.
April 6th, 2012 at 7:55 PM
Cousins is 100% right. The ginger is protected by this league. This is after all, a team built by David Stern.
