Report: D’Antoni Wanted to Trade Carmelo Anthony to the Nets For Deron Williams
TNT’s David Aldridge is reporting that before Mike D’Antoni and James Dolan agreed to a mutual separation, D’Antoni had tried to convince Dolan to trade Carmelo Anthony to the Nets for Deron Williams.
From Hang Time:
D’Antoni, the source said, had been advocating that the Knicks attempt to trade Anthony to the New Jersey Nets for guard Deron Williams, a deal D’Antoni believed would be beneficial for both franchises. But Dolan categorically declined that request, and the “conflicting visions” between the owner and head coach about Anthony meant there was no way forward.
D’Antoni had hoped the Knicks’ inspired and winning play with Lin as the centerpiece — while Anthony and Stoudemire were injured — would convince Dolan the Knicks could win without Anthony. Bringing Williams from the Nets would also have eases the burden on Lin, D’Antoni believed, allowing Lin to settle into a three-guard rotation.
What a mess. What’s next? Isiah coming back?

Please make this happen. I will pay to make this happen.

good for D’Antoni knowing that Lin was not the Answer.

The Knicks and their fans don’t deserve D’Antoni. Idiots.

damn right

So, this idiot thought he needed to bring in Williams, yet still felt the need to run the offense through Lin. Why would you bring in Williams if you already have your PG? Even Dolan couldn’t see the logic in that.

Melo > Durant. I’ll debate that with anyone. But, But, But, Durant is a nice guy who just loves basketball and plays the right way.

In what planet is that the case.
Durant career line of 26.1/2.8/6.5 on 46.6% 2s/ 35.9% 3s/ 87.7% FTs
Anthony career line of 24.7/3.1/6.3 on 45.6% 2s/ 31.9% 3s/ 80.6% FTs
How is Anthony better?

All NBA defender

Melo > Durant in a perfect world where Carmelo gives a damn and actually tries hard. Sadly, he tries hard 30% of the time

Yes i would also like to hear this debate.

Jesus, Darrell, is Melo your brother or something?

Cuse fan?

I like how the Knicks were foaming at the mouth to sign D’Antoni and Amare and trade for Carmelo under the premise that deep playoffs runs must follow immediately. Turns out winning isn’t exactly that fast and simple.
Now it appears there’s a hard-on for Phil Jackson as if he’s going to show up and sprinkle some NBA championship potion on the squad. It seems like there’s a tendency to overvalue whoever it is you don’t have right now as if getting him will solve everything right away.

Nice numbers. Durant’s teams play at a faster pace, which means they get up more shots a game. I don’t even have to look at the stats to gather that he gets up more shots a year on average than Anthony. That will explain that 1 plus point more a game a year average. Besides that, Durant to his benefit didn’t have to deal with a coach who thought good ball movement was getting Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin ugly jump shots from the top of the key, or getting Tyson Chandler into double digits. Anthony is a better passer, better, more versatile defender, better, all around offensive player. He gets you assists from the post and the wing. All great offensive players dominate the ball. Charles Barkley made a living off of backing down players to draw the double and dishing out. A good coach can run offense off of that. Unfortunately, Karl isn’t a good offensive coach, and D’Antonti only knows one way to coach. The only advantage Durant has on Anthony is from the perimeter.

Just a basketball fan who’s opinions are based on observation as opposed to collective message board narratives.

Wrong again
Durant career 19.1 shots a game
Anthony career 19.3 shots a game
If you want to base it off of this year Durant is taking 1.3 more shots a game but scoring 6.6 more points a game. Anthony does get you that .3 more assists a game which proves how great of a passer he is. Defense is your argument which makes no sense because neither one of them are a great defender.
Proving yet again that you watch no basketball unlike your claim George Karl’s awful offensive coaching is leading the league in scoring this year. Anthony is a great offensive player but he isn’t as good as Durant. If you could show some sort of statistic proving this I will be glad to listen.
March 15th, 2012 at 1:10 AM
eh, whatever. I’ll concede the shot attempts point as it wasn’t germane to my point anyway. The fact of the matter is Durant plays in a more uptempo offense where he gets easier shots. Denver is number 1 in the NBA in scoring? Good. I see that Miami is number 2 and OKC number 3. I hope you aren’t going to make the argument that this shows that Eric Spoelstra and Scott Brooks are offensive gurus. If you watched the Western Conference Finals as well as the NBA Finals, you wouldn’t. Good, I wouldn’t make the argument for George Karl either. Throwing out those stats doesn’t show you watch the game. Being able to compare the skill set of each player does. Being a great offensive coach is being able to make adjustments once your main offense is shutdown, being able to adapt on the fly. Neither Melo or Durant are great defenders, but Melo is better. Melo is a better low post presensce. Melo is a better passer, a skill that has been underutilized by his coaches, especially Karl. Melo, historically, has been a better rebounder, especially when you consider Durant as a 7 ft small forward, is woefully underperforming in that area. Durant has the slight advantage as a shooter with more consistent deep range. Melo’s mid range game is better.
March 15th, 2012 at 1:26 AM
Then you need to realize that when Anthony is pounding the ball in the post it kills the rhythm. They are both bad defenders and your claiming that somehow Anthony is not as bad as Durant. Durant is better offensively and it really isn’t close he beats him in every category except for assists. Durant is averaging 8 rebounds a game this year which is second for small forwards behind LeBron. This great passer is averaging .3 more assists a game for his career. Ask any GM in the league they will take Durant over Anthony in a heartbeat. If Melo is a better mid range shooter how in the world is his FT% 7 % lower than Durant’s unless you want to change what midrange means? All you have is your weak belief that Melo is a better player because that’s what you think. If you could provide ONE stat to back this up I would like to hear it. I can scream up and down that Adam Dunn is a better hitter then Pujols but it just makes me an idiot not correct.
March 15th, 2012 at 1:42 AM
You build a rhythm off of his “pounding the ball” (which is highly overstated by the way) if the player pounding the ball is your best player and is a good passer. Charles Barkley, Oscar Robertson, it has been done. I not only gave my breakdown on each player, I minimized each of your favorite stats in doing so. The bottom line is I argued my “weak beliefs” much better than you regurgitated your stats. Keep trying though. Put another weak argument up here, and I’ll take care of it in the morning.
March 15th, 2012 at 2:01 AM
Name one stat that shows Anthony is a better player then Durant.
