Charles Oakley Called Out Kevin Garnett and Charles Barkley
Charles Oakley is an intense guy. He’s been Michael Jordan’s gambling buddy and unofficial bodyguard since before Blake Griffin was on YouTube. These days, one of his favorite things to do is call current and former players soft. Oak’s latest targets? Kevin Garnett and Charles Barkley during an appearance on The Jim Rome Show. Via CBS’s Eye On Basketball:
“Garnett left Minnesota and hollered and screamed and all that but he’s not a tough guy. He’s one of the weakest guys to ever play the game. He’s a complimentary player and went to Paul Pierce’s team and won a championship. I wouldn’t consider him a top 10 tough guy.”
I don’t know about the weakest ever, but Garnett has definitely made a habit of starting shit with little guys.
Barkley for his size was a good player but he’s a coward though. He was a good player for his size but, he wasn’t a leader and wasn’t a role model. Now he talks so bad about younger guys, I don’t respect that from him…He’s a fraud, he can criticize all the younger kids and if he got something to say, call them and talk to them before you just blast them. He’s wants to be funny, that whole TNT thing and all that, they’re like some clowns on that show.
Calling Charles Barkley out for not being a role model seems… pointless. I’m a Barkley fan, but I feel like most of his criticisms on Inside The NBA are pretty fair. My opinion doesn’t matter though. How is this going to affect the next time he Jordan and Barkley meet at the blackjack tables in Vegas?

Hell of a shot. Grant was draped on him. Phoenix lost that game in the 1st quarter.

I knew there was a reason this post was on TBL!

He’s right about Garnett but how does being a failure as a role model brand Barkley a coward?

Love Oak.

I was busy and only caught the last 2 minutes [insert typical NBA joke here] of the game. Tim Roye is a great radio guy out here and he said it was a great shot over tough D, and that did it some injustice once I saw the actual highlight. Grant played it as well as he could and Monta just had it fall.

He’s a complimentary player and went to Paul Pierce’s team and won a championship.
Like Bill Cartwright did in 1990

So…he’s the AntiGruden?

I hated when Shaq did that to Kobe and DWade’s teams.

This is a kind way of calling him an asshole. An image which Oakley seems to enjoy, actually.

When Charles Oakley goes swimming, Charles Oakley doesn’t get wet. The water gets Charles Oakley.

Rack’em!

Good call, YYSA! And Chuck throws guys through restaurant windows just for giggles. He’s an asshole, maybe, but not soft. KG on the other hand (coughcoughpussycough)….

Oak scares the shit out of me to this day!

Oak went to Shaw High School, in East Cleveland. That is probably one of the roughest 25 neighborhoods in the USA. No doubt in my mind.

Oakley smacked Barkley during the 99 Lockout in one of the meetings. He has made it plain for a long time that he has no love for him.

Lol @ KG being “complimentary”. People forget how dominant KG was in his MVP years.
February 24th, 2012 at 7:11 AM
Um Shaq was a Lakers before Kobe was drafted

Oak is now the definition of a bitter old man. Let it go dude. Since he’s recently been a coach in the NBA, he knows the fouls he used to commit would now either warrant a flagrant or a suspension, right? Game has changed, no point in calling guys soft for playing how they need to play now to stay in the game.
I actually agree more with his criticism of Barkley – when CB34 played he was a partier, wanted his stats, had a huge ego etc. But now that he’s on TNT he’s calling out guys left and right for not being a leader and not stepping up? Maybe if you played some D CB you’d have that ring. Bit hypocritical.
