Nickelback Knows You Hate Them, Will Still Play Thanksgiving Game Halftime In Detroit
It appears that Nickelback is now self-aware. They made this video with Funny or Die that is pretty funny. It also points out just how absurd an online petition to keep Nickelback from performing during halftime of tomorrow’s Detroit – Green Bay game actually is. Just look at this earnest testimonial from the petition page.
As a professional music producer/engineer/songwriter and lifelong Lions fan, I am disgusted with the choice of Nickelback as a representation of music and culture in Detroit. Our city is famous for the creation of an entire genre, Motown, very few cities can make this claim. Not to mention very strong hip-hop, dj, and rock and roll scenes.
The thanksgiving game is a privilege, and we are very proud of our 2011 Lions team. Its a chance for Detroit to be on a national stage and show where we truly are at. Show our passion for our team, and show the world Detroit. So…
Nickelback? Is Nickelback Detroit? Does Nickelback have songs that reflect what we do in Detroit? What life is like? Nickelbacks’ music doesn’t even reflect a musical genre that has ever been popular in the city. It is not rock and roll, its a nasty hybrid of the worst manufactured music on the planet.
Lions Administration needs to dig a little deeper to identify who their fans are and select music to reflect that. I don’t personally know anyone that listens to Nickelback, they exemplify much of what is wrong with music. We are a hard working city that has guts, not the nicest city, not the cleanest, but NOT fake. Detroit has some proud people, so pick an act that is real.
I’d be happy to offer suggestions.
Guh. This guy is the worst. I don’t care how sick you are of Nickelback, this guy is worse. Acting like the Thanksgiving day game is some annual showcase for the city of Detroit. Over the last 7 seasons the Lions have averaged a 21 point loss on Thanksgiving. You want to say Nickelback sucks, that’s fine, but shut up about how proud your city is. There is nothing as annoying as civic pride. Especially fake civic pride from some jackass “professional music producer/engineer/songwriter” who is “happy to offer suggestions.” This year I’m giving thanks for all the people that I hate.

libertarian is about as clearly defined as the OWS movement.
Like ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’ it has a text book meaning, but in text book definitions do not fit in American politics. That’s partly because both parties are “big tent” parties; they both encompass a wide spectrum of viewpoints. And our politics is also issue based rather than ideology based, so as a result you have less party identity than you would in, say, Europe, for example.

I’m not sure exactly how he formed the impression, but it stemmed from the fact that I’d mentioned in the past that my fiancee isn’t white (which she isn’t, she’s hispanic). Somehow he got the notion from that that I was in an interracial relationship and was thus black.

The airport is on the West Side. The safe part of town. How long ago was it? I knew the family that used to own the Econo Lodge across the street.
Maybe 5 years ago? It don’t think it was the econo lodge… i told the cab driver to take me to the nearest motel, so he probably didn’t. Motel 6? super 8? And to be fair to flint, I’d call almost any motel sketchy. I was just annoyed they kicked me out of the airport.

because American media and music listening audience is largely ignorant of 95% of bands that are not from the USA and Canada. I heard of Muse from friends and many people heard of them when a song of theirs was on the Twilight soundtrack. Some great bands never get exposure they should solely because they don’t find the ideal marketing image used by record companies and media outlets.

I think you are right, but I dont think you can say this about Muse. They are a band that doesn’t work, for whatever reason, in the US. I think they have had the marketing and money behind them — but it doesnt jive with a US audience.
