Did ESPN’s Adam Schefter Know About the Carson Palmer Deal Monday Night, But Not Report It? [UPDATE]
That’s the claim of John Shahidi, the CEO at RockLive. He tweeted this morning that ESPN’s Adam Schefter knew about the Palmer trade last night but he “stayed silent to protect CP and the deal.” Shahidi then quickly edited his tweet to remove the part about protecting Palmer. But not before others – like ESPN’s Jerry Rice – retweeted it. Here’s a screengrab:
How or why the CEO of RockLive would know about the Palmer-to-Oakland deal is a mystery – and how would Shahidi know that Schefter knew? – but perhaps Adam Schefter will shed some light on the situation.
[UPDATE: As commenters pointed out, Jordan Palmer and John Shahidi went to high school together and are partners in the Iphone APP business. How/why they'd ask Schefter to sit on the story and protect Carson Palmer remains a mystery.]
It’s a pretty surprising allegation, but I’m sure Schefter has a reason he sat on this story. What’s he “protecting” Palmer and the Raiders from? And why’s he protecting Palmer and the Raiders in the first place? Surely this post will be updated.
[UPDATE, 4:09 pm: ESPN released a statement about this kerfuffle: "We were pursing the story aggressively yet felt there wasn't enough confirmed information as of last night to report it. The suggestion that it wasn't reported to protect anyone involved, including Carson Palmer, is simply wrong." I look forward to ESPN's use of decorum in the future when it comes to reporting trades.]

Maybe I don’t know enough about transactions in the NFL, but what aspect in the deal did he have to protect by not reporting on it?

Whats RockLive?
October 18th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
Carson’s brother Jordan is one of the Co-Founders of RockLive, the creators of the RunPee app they show on Hard Knocks…so it’s possible Jordan knew of the deal and told his partner John, Schefter could have contacted John to see if he knew anything, then John wanted to look cool and blew up Schefter’s spot

As for Shifty Schefty, I guess that there was some fear that if the deal became known that either: A) some other team would try to scuttle it by turning Mike Brown’s head around or B) Mike Brown would have gotten cold feet and deep-sixed it.

I know you’re referring to our conversation yesterday, but I’m still not sure what this means exactly. But with Beam, because it has a full-bodied flavor, you need a flavorful cheese to go with it, so that it can stand up to the Beam. Jack is sweet and sugary, so you’d want a savory, creamier cheese to go with it.
October 18th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
While I agree with all of this, I’m pretty sure the scoopage gives Glazer tons of leverage when renegotiating his contract.

It’s just pairing flavors. Anyone who tells you there are rules for what should go with what though is a pretentious asshole. Ultimately we should all drink what we want with what we want to eat. If you want a white wine with a steak, go for it. If you want a bourbon with some fish, have at it.
October 18th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
you’d think there would be more emphasis on actual analysis of the news, rather than scooping it, since social media and the internet has essentially made scooping pointless.

Doesn’t it depend on the context? If Schefter got the same info himself within minutes of Glazer, I don’t really care. If he reads a Glazer text and THAT’s his source, and then he gets credit for the “scoop,” then yeah I have a problem.

As dogmatic as I have been on here about this in the past, I largely agree with this. However, I do think it’s a crime if someone it taking a 15 or 18 or older blend or malt and adding anything but a drop of water. If someone doesn’t like the potential alcoholic bite, then I recommend keeping with the cheaper stuff and putting in it whatever pleases you.

Ricotta is different though. As is marscarpone. It’s not the same thing as taking a hunk of cheddar and dropping it on a piece of pie. You put cream on top of a pie. Not cheese.

definitely agree with this. there’s some older 18-25 year old blends and single malts that have to be consumed neat. johnny walker blue may not be the everest of scotch, but when neat it’s like drinking velvet.
anyone who looks to get into scotch i always tell them start with the cheap stuff on the rocks, lots of ice, and gradually decrease the ice and increase the quality until you can handle it neat.

Yep this is the way to do it. And if someone is going to try a single malt neat for the first time, it’s usually best to go with someone really easy and relatively inexpensive like Glen Livet 12.
