For anyone interested – since the NBA ASG is coming up, I reflected back on the 2001 All-Star game on my blog, which IMO, is the best one ever . I watched the game on Youtube recently, and its crazy how out of both East and West rosters, most of the players are either retired, completely burnt out, playing overseas (Iverson, Marbury), or bench players on their last legs. I know its 10 years later, but guys like Spreewell and Big Dog just completely faded.
And somehow Antonio Davis was an All-Star.

That this place, even with the huge amount of people who have signed up, does not devolve into the idiocy that can be seen in the comment sections of YouTube, the local newspaper website, or espn should show everyone the quality of discussion and contributions by the commentariat. Turning this into deadspin would ruin the quality of discussion and conversation here and turn each comment section into a series of ‘pithy’ one liners lest we become worried about upsetting someone with actual discourse.

1 – depends upon the era, are we going 96 to present or 2000 to present? If 96, then I’d say Kobe (team Kobe), LeBron, Duncan, Iverson, Wade, Howard, Pierce, Garnett, Durant, Shaq, Paul are all better.
2 – Orlando is the 4th best team, Boston, Miami and Chicago are better. Knicks are not top 4.

Where are you getting new ideas? Who chooses those accepted? Yea sure some people may be annoying to you, but they offer (more often than not) great points in discussions that THOUSANDS of others see. It’s a fact that’s been spread by word of mouth and websites alike that this site has the most informed and engaging comment section of all the big websites. Knowing that, you want to stifle that community? As Stark said in the Grey thread, a lot of the commenter traffic you have in here is from when Deadspin decided they wanted to be an “elite” commenting site. Now who the fuck reads Deadspin unless they’re in the news? No one. People want to have their voices heard, and the best way to do that is to allow EVERYONE equal footing. If we’re going to start putting stars next to names, bumping up comments or just plain banning all those we don’t deem “worthy” of posting here well then this site is fucked.

How can you put the Illusion albums on that list? GnR is my favorite band ever and you will never find a bigger fan of theirs than me, but there are songs on those albums that even I do not listen to or consider to be very good. Those albums are way too hit or miss- for every You Could Be Mine or Locomotive there is a My World or the one that Duff sings. Appetite is way better than the Illusion albums.

James actually comes off really well because it focuses on him recovering after coming out of rehab, because thats what the movie is really about more than the band falling apart. Jason is actually in it even though he left the band after they started shooting it. He comes off as a bigger dick than Lars at certain points.
VH1 also has a documentary about Lemmy that they are showing in rotation that is also really good and worth checking out if you are into that kind of music. Watched it the other day.
