Jerry Sloan, who has coached the Utah Jazz since 1988, is expected to resign later today at a press conference according to the Desert News. Last night, Sloan and Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor apparently had a heated closed-doors conversation.

Remember this doom-and-gloom post last month about the Jazz? Someone just floored the accelerator. Utah’s headed off the cliff like Thelma & Louise. Wonder how many NBA GMs are calling the Jazz about Deron Williams right now?

[UPDATE: There is some speculation - with nothing concrete to back it up - that the Jazz may have forced Sloan out in an effort to keep Williams (in the summer of 2012, he has a player option). Williams could be next year's version of Carmelo Anthony. This speculation seems crazy - Sloan is regarded as one of the best coaches in the league and has been the Jazz coach for 23 years - but if you've seen a link about it, I'd love to read more.]
