It was a successful Week 1 for both LSU head coach Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

Kiffin coached Chambliss at Ole Miss during the 2025 season before leaving for LSU. The two were fantastic together in Oxford, but both showed in Week 1 they can win on their own.

Kiffin coached his first game at No. 11 LSU on Saturday night, crushing Clemson 51-10. The game wasn’t even close, and Kiffin himself was surprised by that.

“I thought it’d be like 35-7, 35-10,” Kiffin said after the game, per ESPN’s David Hale. “I didn’t know they’d be that dysfunctional on offense.”

Chambliss led No. 9 Ole Miss on a game-winning drive to beat No. 24 Louisville 41-38 on Sunday night, finishing with 336 yards through the air, three touchdowns and an interception. He added 60 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky was super impressed with Chambliss.

“He can keep Ole Miss in every game, even without Lane Kiffin,” Orlovsky said on Monday’s episode of “Get Up.” “The second half was amazing. The first half, he did not look like the player we saw last year. In the second half, it was absolute fireworks. These are beautiful throws. Crossing routes, go routes, seam balls. Just the way that he threw the football in the second half was about as good as it can get.”

Kiffin-Chambliss reunion coming Sept. 19 in Oxford

To take Orlovsky’s point a step further, Chambliss played like this in the College Football Playoff after Pete Golding took over as head coach. Chambliss took the Rebels to the CFP semifinals before the Rebels fell to the Miami Hurricanes.

It’s going to be fun seeing Chambliss and Kiffin go against one another when Kiffin returns to Oxford on Sept. 19.
