There's still animosity when Kiffin's name is mentioned in Volunteers country.

Say what you will about Lane Kiffin, but the man knows how to draw attention from rival college football fans, even when his team is playing far away.

The Tennessee faithful are out in full force for Saturday’s showdown with Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns. However, they still made a point of showing their hatred for Kiffin during ESPN’s College GameDay.

The Knoxville fans delivered an epic NSFW “F**k Lane Kiffin” chant prior to Tennessee-Texas kicking off at 12 p.m. ET on ABC. There’s a good chance the packed GameDay crowd is already a few drinks deep after Tennessee announced Friday there would be half-priced concessions, including beer, from 9 to 10 a.m. ET.

Meanwhile, there’s certainly still bad blood between Kiffin and the Volunteers years after the coach’s one-and-done 2009 season.

Despite the passage of time, it’s clear that Volunteers fans haven’t forgotten the 7-6 campaign Kiffin delivered 17 years ago.

The veteran head coach’s brief NFL stint with the Oakland Raiders had ended abruptly in 2008, which sparked his return to college football with the SEC program.

However, Kiffin has spent time with many teams since then, including his current stop with LSU. The Tigers are entering a brutal portion of their season after losing to Ole Miss in Week 3.

LSU faces five more ranked opponents during the 2026 season, including No. 1 Texas and No. 14 Tennessee in November. Kiffin’s visit to Neyland Stadium will undoubtedly bring out some more unkind chants aimed at the controversial coach.

This weekend, both LSU and Tennessee have their work cut out for them. The clash with Texas will dominate the early slate of games, while the Tigers face off with Texas A&M in primetime (7:30 p.m. ET on ABC).
