Youth Hockey Player Punches Referee, Gets Lifetime Ban

A junior league hockey player has been banned for life after he punched a referee during a United States Premier Hockey League game. Paul Halloran, 20, was a member of the South Shore Kings who play in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The incident happened in a game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

As you can see in the video the referee made a rather animated call, which Halloran did not agree with. He then punched the referee as he was being escorted to the penalty box.

“The action taken today by a USPHL player is completely unacceptable in the USPHL. The USPHL has zero tolerance for any player striking any official, at any time. The player in question’s actions have led to a lifetime ban.

According to the league statement, the incident is now being investigated by local authorities which means the end of his hockey career could be the least of his worries.
