Steve Spurrier Thought Georgia Suspensions Was His Best One Liner

By Ty Duffy

Steve Spurrier was in Tennessee for a charity golf tournament. He was asked about his best one-liners. His favorite: the comment about Georgia suspensions.

"“They were asking me about all those things I said, the Citrus Bowl jokes and Free Shoes U. stuff,” Spurrier said. “I told them I always thought the best one didn’t have anything to do with Tennessee or FSU. "

"It’s the one I said about preferring to play Georgia the second week of the season because you could always count on them having two or three good players suspended every year. Everybody said, ‘Did you really say that?’ and I said, ‘Yes, because it’s true.’ ”"

Spurrier made the Georgia suspensions comment after the SC-UGA game was moved from week two to week six in 2012.

"“I don’t know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended.”"

The HBC may have softened a bit as the years have taken their toll. For us, it’s hard to top “You can’t spell Citrus without U-T,” the Auburn coloring books joke or any of his Ray Goff tormenting.
