Serena Williams and Venus Williams withdrew from the Wimbledon women’s doubles competition today after Serena was unfit to get through the first set. Serena Williams came out for warm-ups and was visibly disoriented. This continued through the short match as she could barely bounce the ball and didn’t get a single serve into play against opponents Kristina Barrois and Stefanie Voegele. The match was called with the Williams sisters down 3-0.

Right now, no one knows what is wrong with Serena. She was checked out by doctors multiple times and was allowed to continue despite being visibly… messed up. It was such a strange sight that announcers even wondered if something would turn up in a drug test. On Saturday she was eliminated from the Women’s tournament by France’s Alize Cornet (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).

Update: Serena is apparently suffering from a “viral illness.”
