Reports: The Kansas City Royals Have Acquired Johnny Cueto

By Rob Perez

The rich get richer.

Johnny Cueto, the Cincinnati Reds’ ace starting pitcher, is headed to the powerhouse Kansas City Royals per FOX Sports, ESPN, and multiple reports.

Despite a 7-6 win/loss record, Cueto has posted an impressive 2.62 ERA & 120:29 strikeout/walk ratio this season in 130.2 innings pitched. If true, this is a monster acquisition for the Kansas City Royals — who already have the American League’s best record and are currently the Vegas odds-on-favorite (+550) to win the 2015 World Series. Cueto’s health is a major concern, however, as he has been complaining about “elbow stiffness” all season, and required an MRI on said elbow on May 26 to check it out. The good news is that the MRI revealed no structural damage, and Cueto missed just one start. The bad news: the same stiffness resurfaced in mid-June and he once again had a start pushed back.

With pitchers and elbows: where there’s smoke there’s usually fire, but, to his credit: since the MRI on May 26th, Cueto has posted a 2.20 ERA in 10 starts.
