Patrick Ewing was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. Ewing talked about all the trash talk Michael Jordan used to direct at him, and then mentioned before attending Georgetown, Ewing considered attending the University of North Carolina. How close was Ewing to being a Tar Heel and playing with Jordan? Pretty close, but he wasn’t a big fan of the locals.

“I was close. North Carolina was a very good school, but you know, when I went down there they put me in that Carolina Inn and there was a big Ku Klux Klan rally in North Carolina when I was there. And I was like, you know, I’m not coming down here. I’m staying my butt back in Boston.”

Patrick Ewing went to Georgetown because of the KKK’s presence in North Carolina. Once he decided against UNC, Dean Smith told Ewing he should attend Georgetown to be coached by John Thompson.
