Matt Cassel Likely Out After Appendix Removed

Appendectomy for Matt Cassel: Poor timing on the part of a vestigial organ as the Chiefs prepare for a big division game against the Chargers.  Chiefs Quarterback Matt Cassel had his appendix removed yesterday.  When Ben Roethlisberger had a similar procedure right before the season in 2006, he missed the season opener and returned 15 days after surgery.  While the Chiefs haven’t (publicly) officially ruled him out, they did sign Tyler Palko from the practice squad.  It would be reckless to put Cassel in a football game a few days after surgery, even one as important as the Chargers game (Kansas City could effectively eliminate the Chargers from the playoffs with a road upset).  The Chargers should probably prepare for about a quarter and a half of Brodie Croyle before he suffers a season ending injury, followed by Palko and some wildcat with McCluster, Arenas and Charles.  [Kansas City Star]
