Mark Sanchez was singing I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys at a Philly karaoke joint on Tuesday night. A fan named Marquis captured a quick video before the quarterback snatched his phone away. This morning, Marquis called into Anthony Gargano’s morning show on 97.5 The Fanatic and explained the strange twists and turns with Sanchez and his phone.

First, as Marquis explained it, Sanchez and Riley Cooper called him over to participate in the group, seemingly inviting the attention. Then Sanchez quickly had an about-face, took the phone away, and wouldn’t give it back. Later, he told Marquis the phone was at the bar, so the fan made his rounds among bartenders and the DJ to no avail. When he returned to confront Sanchez, the quarterback finally pulled the phone out of his pocket and gave it back. (Riley Cooper was apparently cool about it throughout the whole ordeal.)

The back story is actually a lot more funny and interesting than Sanchez choosing a relatively standard karaoke song with which to sing karaoke. Take a couple minutes to listen to it.
