Kevin Durant Inspired an Australian Swimmer So Much He Nearly Vomited

Kevin Durant is a global superstar as one of the faces of the NBA. Kyle Chalmers is a swimmer from Australia. Chalmers is a big fan. He watches Durant’s 2014 NBA MVP speech before every race for motivation. As a special treat before Chalmers swam in the 100m freestyle final, Australia’s team manager got Durant to tape a special message for Chalmers. They showed Chalmers the video before his race. Way before his race. Via the Sydney Morning Herald:

"“They actually had to show it to me this morning because they knew I wouldn’t be able to focus if I saw it tonight before my race – I’m a big fan.”"

The timing and motivation worked as Chalmers won Australia’s first 100m freestyle gold medal since 1968. The gold is even more impressive when you hear about what Chalmers went through to get to the final.

"“Last night I was walking over to my semi-finals and Kevin Durant walked in front of me,” Chalmers gushed. “To be honest with you I almost vomited. My jaw dropped. I was that excited and nervous.”"

Kevin Durant has that effect on people.
