Philadelphia Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa has left Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Atlanta Braves with an apparent injury.
While legging out an infield single in the top of the ninth inning, Sosa beat the throw but immediately hobbled past first base after crossing the bag. He called for the training staff right away and was in clear discomfort. It was evident his day was over. Derek Hill came in to pinch-run moments later.

The timing is particularly concerning given his injury history entering this series. Sosa tweaked his groin on the final day of the regular season while hustling out a double, meaning he was already not at full health heading into the postseason.
Sosa entered this series filling in at infield for Luis Arraez, who is sidelined with an ankle sprain. If Sosa is unable to continue, the Phillies will likely have to move Bryce Harper back to first base with Derek Hill shifting to the outfield.
That may actually be a better defensive alignment given Harper already committed a costly error in the outfield earlier in this series. But the bigger concern is the depth of Philadelphia’s bench, which is now especially depleted.

During the regular season, Sosa was a productive piece for the Phillies. He hit .247 with a .283 on-base percentage and .712 OPS across 84 appearances. Now in his fifth year in Philadelphia, his future beyond this postseason is unclear as he is set to hit free agency.
