The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without their starting quarterback for a while.
According to ESPN/NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Baker Mayfield suffered a dislocated thumb against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Sept. 27, but there’s no fracture or ligament damage.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles then confirmed during his Monday press conference that Mayfield will miss the next three weeks. Mayfield has thrown for 615 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions, to start the year. He also lost three fumbles in the season opener.
The Bucs are winless in their first three games and will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.
Who starts in place of Baker Mayfield?

Jalon Daniels is set to be the Buccaneers’ starting quarterback going forward. He’s an undrafted rookie out of Kansas and was with the program from 2020 to 2025. He played in 12 games for the Jayhawks last season, throwing for 2,531 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
He finished his collegiate career with 9,282 passing yards, 67 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions.
If Mayfield is out for three full weeks, he would miss games against the Packers, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kickoff for the Buccaneers-Packers game on Oct. 4 at Raymond James Stadium will be at 1 p.m. ET.
