Day 3 of the 2026 Laver Cup could not have gone better for Team Europe.
Up 7-5, the squad needed two wins out of the four possible matches to ensure victory.
Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik earned a big win in the opening doubles match against Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz, so the stage was set for Alexander Zverev. He could potentially clinch the Laver Cup by beating Learner Tien before teammates Carlos Alcaraz or Rafael Jodar had to take the court in London’s evening matches.

Zverev was unnerved but found a way

Tien is a tough customer, proving that in his Day 1 win over Flavio Cobolli.
He hung with Zverev, frustrating him with long rallies and excellent shotmaking.
Zverev won the first set 7-6. He then secured the lone service break of the match in the second set and held on to win it 6-3.

He has been the clincher for Team Europe four of the seven times he has competed.
With two Grand Slam wins—at the French Open and US Open—and the ATP World No. 1 tennis ranking potentially in his reach, Zverev continues his Hall of Fame season.

High-quality tennis over three days
Jakub Mensik turned heads at this tournament with decisive doubles wins on Days 1 and 3. His serve is stellar and he was a clutch performer, making huge shots throughout.
Mensik is the 2026 US Open mixed doubles champion with Karolina Muchova, who was enjoying a fine day as Czechia tennis claimed the 2026 WTA Billie Jean King Cup title.
Many have questioned the purpose of the Laver Cup, but it is highly entertaining because it makes teammates out of usual rivals, giving them a rare opportunity to play together.

It also has a VIP following thanks to Roger Federer and the event’s namesake, Rod Laver. Andy Murray, John McEnroe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jon Bon Jovi, and Anna Wintour were among the celebrities in attendance.
