Cam Newton Fashion Choices Coincidentally Catch Up To Him When the Panthers Season Seems Lost

Cam Newton was benched on Sunday for violation of the team’s dress code. Specifically, for not wearing a tie.

After the game Newton and coach Ron Rivera talked about the decision. Rivera refused to discuss the specificity of the dress code.

Meanwhile, Newton blamed being away from home for a week and said that he hadn’t been punished before for a similar outfit.

This will make for a hell of a week of debates because both Newton and Rivera are right and wrong at the same time. Newton knew the rules and chose not to abide by them. He has the means. He very easily could have purchased a whole new outfit. Any excuse to go shopping seems like it would agree with Cam Newton.

As for Rivera, he had a chance to show his team that no one person is above the rules. Not even the NFL MVP. Except for that other time. It almost seems unbelievable that this is the reason Cam Newton was benched. Perhaps if the Panthers had been 7-4 instead of 4-7 going into last night, Rivera could have looked past what looked like a fairly toned-down look for Newton.

Seriously, this is the look that got Cam Newton suspended? This one.

Not this one? Or this one? Or this one?

Nope. Instead, Rivera chose to sit the NFL MVP, willingly started Derek Anderson and asked him to throw the ball. You can’t win a game on the first play of the game, but this sure seems like evidence you can lose it on the first play of the game. Just the latest in a long line of bad decisions by the Panthers this season.
