These Funny Rowers are Ireland's Gift to the World

Imagine encountering a couple of young Irish guys, maybe on vacation in Dublin or, say, at the Olympics in Brazil. In the best possible scenario, what would those Irish guys be like? How would they talk, and what sort of things would they say?

Now, watch this video of a pair of Irish rowers and tell me that’s not exactly what you had in mind.

Paul and Gary O’Donovan won a silver medal in rowing on Friday, and as a result were the toast of the local news back home on RTE Sport, which might be considered the Irish ESPN.

"“We’re in Rio,” Gary O’Donovan said. “The background might look superimposed, but it’s very real.”"

The O’Donovans then dive into “podium pants,” urine tests and, delightfully, pizza.

Ireland has gone “rowing mad, O’Donnovan mad,” over this result. The O’Donnovans are vaguely aware of this.

"“Tis a pity we’re missing the whole thing out here,” Gary said."

And yet you get the feeling their doing just fine where they are.
