Alex Rodriguez vs. the Yankees Took Another Twist When Doctor Said He's Healthy on Mike Francesa's Show [Audio]

The simmering Cold War between Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees seems on the verge of bubbling over. Wednesday afternoon Rodriguez allowed his doctor to go on Mike Francesa’s radio show and reveal their was no damage to the ailing slugger’s quad, which delayed his apparent return to the Yankees lineup earlier this week.

Dr. Michael Gross of Hackensack Medical Center gave Rodriguez a second opinion on the MRI and told Francesa:

"“I asked him … ‘A-Rod, does anything hurt?’ And he said ‘No.’ “"

This news should spin the New York tabloids into overdrive, especially since Francesa (who’s now become A-Rod’s personal PR manager) hinted Rodriguez should fully fit to play on Friday. Remember, everyone and their mother is spinning rumors about the pending MLB suspension for Rodriguez via his involvement with Biogenesis. Yesterday there was talk he was facing a lifetime ban. (Honestly, at this point who the hell knows what’s going to happen and is A-Rod just trying to troll everybody at this point?)

Rodriguez itching to get back on the field would however seem to nullify all the conspiracy talk from over the weekend that he was trying to get himself deemed physically unable to play in order to retire before the Biogenesis penalty is handed down so he can recoup most of the money owed him. It would also seem to indicate he would fight and appeal any suspension from MLB and not cook up a deal like Ryan Braun did earlier this week.

The next move in this tabloid saga will come from either Yankees, who still owe Rodriguez close to $100 million through the 2017 season, or MLB. A couple weeks ago when Rodriguez tweeted a health update it caused the usually reserved Brian Cashman to drop an f-bomb. The Yankees are clearly unhappy they owe Rodriguez so much money and must be looking at the pending Biogenesis suspension as a potential lifeline to get out from under it.

Whatever happens next here ought to be fun, or the exact opposite: tedious.
