Italian soccer is never going to learn, is it?

Sunday at the San Siro traveling AS Roma fans took it upon themselves to allegedly hurl racial taunts and whistled toward Milan forward Mario Balotelli along with other Rossoneri players of color.

To show how bad the situation has gotten, Serie A now has procedures in place for what the referees are supposed to do during the match if and when this sort of taunting occurs  In this case, the match was stopped for a few minutes with Roma captain Francesco Totti appealing for the fans to stop as well as reading a statement over the stadium loudspeakers.

After the delay, the match resumed and eventually ended 0-0, meaning Milan needs to get a result in its final game of the season this weekend in order to secure a place in next year’s Champions League.

Roma is the club team of American midfielder Michael Bradley, who started on Sunday. The club was fined 50,000 euros for the incident.
