I’m not even gonna watch that Carl’s Jr video. I’m just gonna stare at the image.
Good gawd.

Nice girl, not a nice roundup pic. Surprised to see her in something so elegant. Used to something more along these lines
All work ceases at 12:15 p.m. ET today. Will have one monitor with a game on it and the other one I will try to do work on.
British Airways put a giant suitcase in a mall and filled it with famous lookalikes. Those lookalikes were horrible. Maybe the Queen could pass mustard, but the Beatles were bad.

It sounds like Charles Schultz didn’t like much, to be honest

This seems to be bullshit that Johnny Miller wasn’t nominated, don’t you think Spence?

The P-G still puts Classic Peanuts in the comics everyday. Reading these as an adult, it’s pretty clear Schultz was a depressed individual.

I’m off tomorrow, but just by luck, I made a Dr’s appt and I’m having a poker game at my house tomorrow nite and thought just to make a whole day of it.

This gonna sound goofy, but I kinda relate Bruno to a modern-day Prince. When Prince came on the scene in the early 80′s and the success of MTV, he seemed to have a lot of different avenues he could take with music.
I enjoy Bruno Mars’ music. Think he could have some long term success.

Congrats, I’m sure it was tough. I never took up smoking myself, maybe some cigarettes here and there at HS and college parties, but I never really enjoyed it.
My dad smoked for some time, prob about 25 years and then quit in 1982 on a bet from his boss for $50 that he couldnt make it from the mid-Feb to Memorial Day. Dad took the bet just to piss his boss off, but when the bet was over, he just kept going.
March 21st, 2013 at 8:49 AM
I did the gum for a month, and that’s about it. It was mostly all will which I didn’t knew I had at the time. I think the main reason why I quit was because a buddy of mine from work died from a massive stroke (3 pack a day smoker) and my Dad had to get an emergency stent in his heart. That was all in one day, and it was pretty much a wake up call to stop fucking around and quit while I’m young.

March 21st, 2013 at 9:13 AM
about a month ago I quit dipping for 4 or 5 weeks, after I took my blood test the first thing I did was get a dip. I’m not sure what it is about it, I just love to dip.

March 21st, 2013 at 9:15 AM
it’s funny you mention that…whenever i dont smoke doja, i dont wanna dip at all. maybe i should just quit the both of em at the same time along with caffeine too. im sure id be an extremely pleasant person to be around.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:16 AM
i want to quit dipping but i love dipping. it’s a maddening circle of logic.
i have been dipping for years, and sometimes i just stop for a while. but, i let my dentist know i dip about 9 years ago, and anytime he says anything looks off with my gums, i am cold turkey done.
but, i only have about 1-2 a day, and sometimes none.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:16 AM

Diaz is a douchebag, but I’m starting to think there might be some truth to Diaz’s claim that GSP hits like a girl. When was the last time he knocked someone out?
Yes, I’m fully aware that I’d wake up 10 days later if GSP ever punched me, but you get what I’m saying.

I had to get one for life insurance, but didn’t have to get one for health insurance.
Mostly for life insurance, but the day is near that employees will be tested for tobacco for regular health insurance. Where I work, I just have to sign a deal saying I don’t use tobacco and I get the break. Look at what CVS just did. That is just the tip o’ the iceberg.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:27 AM
We’ve done that.

yeah man, life insurance is the first thing that came to my mind when we found out.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:30 AM
You waited until the day of the tourney to fill out an online bracket?
of course i didnt. i tried this a few days ago, and was only able to fill out the first round. same story today.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:32 AM
As well they should have. Will’s going to run a few hundred, though. Keep that in mind.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:32 AM
I read up on it before hand, and it all depends on several factors really. like I said, I don’t dip much, I’m not a fatty and I exercise regularly. the last dip I had before my test was about 10 or 11 days before the test, but that was about the only one I had for a month.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Always curious how this would work. You can get mouth cancer, lung cancer and die of a heart attack without being a tobacco user.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:34 AM
But the likelihood is higher. They’re playing the averages.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:36 AM
You’re at MUCH higher odds of any or all of those happening if you are a tobacco user.
Although I’m technically a tobacco user, since I do smoke cigars on occasion. No differentiation.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:37 AM
congrats on quitting smoking Mantis. I smoked for almost 10 years and quit in 2011. Cheated once or twice since then, but can count on one hand the number of cigs since 1/1/11. Still smoke cigars and ganj occasionally, but not often for either.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:39 AM
Basically if you get a serious illness and they detect tobacco in your blood, your insurance company will likely deny the claim if you are on a non tobacco plan.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:40 AM

March 21st, 2013 at 9:44 AM
You’re at MUCH higher odds of any or all of those happening if you are a tobacco user.
I understand that, what I’m getting at is how the Insurance company proves it was due to tobacco use.

March 21st, 2013 at 9:51 AM
The thought of Jarvis Jones playing for the Jets makes me want to cry.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:52 AM
They won’t have to prove that it’s DUE to tobacco use, only that you use tobacco when you said you didn’t.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:52 AM
I understand that, what I’m getting at is how the Insurance company proves it was due to tobacco use.
I sign off on mine that I’m a non-tobacco user although I chew when I fish or drive long distances. I don’t think the intent is to deny coverage if you get cancer that is related to tobacco. Our company is kind of like what CVS used to do. Trying to get employees to change their lifestyles. And, oh my, as CVS learned, the carrot approach isn’t going to work.
March 21st, 2013 at 9:58 AM
It is absolutely their intent to be able to deny coverage if you pay for a non topbacco plan and use tobacco it’s a breach of contract. They will cover you if you use tobacco, you just have to pay more because you’re more susceptible to the diseases associated with tobacco use. If you pay for non tobacco use plan and get a major disease, you have tobacco in your blood, and there is any connection between tobacco and the disease, they will do everything they can to not pay the claim.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:00 AM
This gonna sound goofy, but I kinda relate Bruno to a modern-day Prince.
For the old folks around here – Bruno’s voice is eerily similar to Terrence Trent D’Arby from the 80s/90s.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Pretty much, this. Insurance companies are in the business of denying claims or coverage, not paying them.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:00 AM

i wish i didn’t remember that show, but I remember that show
March 21st, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Yea, I just love the feeling in my mouth. Holy coop. 1-2 a day. Baseball increases that by a lot. But I do pouches the majority of the time and haven’t seen any gum issues. I’ll eventually stop. Just don’t pine for it just lke it
March 21st, 2013 at 10:04 AM
If you pay for non tobacco use plan and get a major disease, you have tobacco in your blood, and there is any connection between tobacco and the disease, they will do everything they can to not pay the claim.
So they can deny on a correlation?
March 21st, 2013 at 10:06 AM

So can we have a serious question about the “greatest day in sports” claim J-Mac made on twitter.
It is the greatest weekend in sports.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:10 AM
I really don’t think so.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:10 AM
I’m not the biggest college bball fan, and I can say it is easily one of the best sporting days of the year.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:10 AM
Is it? I mean, if we’re arguing quantity over quality, I guess it’s a strong argument.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Ritty:
* Elimination games. 16 of them.
* 12 pm-midnight hoops. 4 games at the same time MOST of that time
* Gambling.
* Brackets.
I get it – people in the south prefer a Saturday of college football. And there are many great Saturdays in college football (NFL). but guess what? after that Saturday is done, you do it again the following week. And again, and again.
Did i mention gambling?
I actually like the small crowds where you can hear the band and feel what’s at stake – season on the line. for seniors, career on the line. You realize these seniors at Bucknell – all except one of them will never play hoops again at this meaningful level?
March 21st, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Not for me. It maybe was 10 years ago. Now the 2nd weekend of CFB is the best, because that means the first weekend of the NFL begins. You have FRI-SAT CFB and SUN-MON NFL.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:12 AM
Insurance companies (specifically health insurance) will do anything they can to avoid paying a claim. I would imagine just having tobacco in your system would be enough for them to fight you on your claim, even if there’s no correlation. The point they’ll make is that you agreed that you don’t use tobacco when you agreed to the terms and conditions of your health benefits by signing up for the non tobacco plan. That’s pretty much all they need to deny a claim.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:13 AM
It’s got to be up there. Of course, I don’t know why Thursday is any better than Friday.
Some of my other favorites:
Masters Sunday
U.S. (tennis) Open Saturday (back in the day)
Super Bowl Sunday, I guess. Almost prefer the Conference Championship Games for some reason.
Things like Opening Day and New Year’s Day are not on same level for me.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:14 AM
I smoked a pack a day for a few years. The way I quit was by calculating the amount of $$$ I wasted on cigs, (i.e. 365 x $5 a pack = $1,825). I put that # on a sticky note next to my bed as a constant reminder.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:14 AM
But the tournament is fantastic. It’s just not my version of the best weekend.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:14 AM
There’s no question football season on the whole is better. But there’s really nothing to duplicate the spectacle of the first two days of the NCAA tournament. All those games, all those upsets, all happening at once.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:17 AM
up to a certain time, at least with the policy I got. they said after 2 years it doesn’t matter.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:18 AM
See I don’t care about the upsets though. I get so many people do, but I’ve never cared. I’d rather see the best teams win, therefore getting the best teams to play each other in the Elite 8 and so on. I totally get that I’m in the minority in that regard though.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:18 AM
Great answer, Jason. I guess my interest has sagged off in the last few years. The bracket thing is a total crap shoot. And I already gamble so it’s not like I use this weekend as an excuse to do it more. I do enjoy the Redzone style of coverage you get when a bunch of games are close.
I don’t know why I thought it was disappointing that this is the “greatest” but maybe it is. I think my biggest gripe is the futility in it. If a 10-16 seed wins a game, it serves little purpose other than screwing with brackets. I think that’s where the breakdown lies for me.
Anyway, don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade. I was mostly looking for alternative answers.

Plus, as a person in a colder climate, the NCAA tournament is always one of those first tangible signs of spring. It usually falls on spring break week and there’s always a chance of getting one of those fluke 70 degree March days. (Last year it was 80+.) So that plays a role too.

It had some good moments.

I enjoy the NCAA tournament as well but I’d take any CFB weekend over it. Football from 12-12, gambling, plus CFB >>>> NCAA BB

But in reality, most of the time you still do get the best teams in later rounds. Which is why the whole “picking upsets in your bracket” thing is so overrated. By the time you get down to the Elite Eight, and definitely to the Final Four, it’s almost always among the top 2-3 seeds in a region.

Just saw a headline that said, “Catholic Church feels squeeze of priest shortage.” Some headline writer has a sense of humor.

You guys that fill out multiple brackets: What’s your strategy? All brackets the same, or multiple brackets with different selections?

wife handled the ff over the phone: nc a&t (she called it a & p i think) versus butler
butler wins 99-88

Multiple brackets in money pools pisses me off. So does the dude who fills out 10 brackets and then tells you about how awesome No. 7 was.
March 21st, 2013 at 10:27 AM
if you need a link to that bracket, let me know

No big deal if it’s just a few bucks. But whenever I do CFB pools or bowl pools and people enter multiple times, I wonder how people can mentally do that. I think people think they’re hedging their bets, but I think they’re more likely to spread their good picks across their multiple entries and dilute each of them down so much they can’t win.

It’s all opinion, but the second round of the tournament (sat and sun) is the best sports weekend of the year in terms of volume and meaningful games and matchups.

I fill out 10 or so brackets online on ESPN. I don’t follow college basketball so I follow several strategies:
1. Blind picks from that WSJ bracket picker.
2. Completely guess.
3. Completely guess a little differently.
4. Try to guess a few upsets.
5. It’s very possible that some of my brackets are identical.
6. I have zero clue who is a realistic favorite to win it all.

I fill out multiple brackets. Most are through restaurants/bars, an auto dealership, a realtor friend, TBL’s, stuff like that. Ones that cost $0 to enter. I spend approximately 30 seconds filling those out and promptly forget about them.
I have two money ones. $5 at work and $20 with friends. I spend almost two minutes filling each of those out and those are the ones I praise or curse.

Thanks for that health info, Smallie. To be honest, I haven’t been to a health insurance meeting at work for about five years and was living a lie.

Late to the party but for you dippers another marker for oral cancer is chronic alcohol use. As someone who has dipped a can and a half (at least) of Copenhagen daily since I was 12 (now 42) I am aware of all oral cancer scenarios.
I would say three dozen times in my life I was 1000% convinced I had cancer. But then my brother and I got to talking and realized there was no cancer on either side of our family. Seriously, none. So, we figured we were home free.
My Daddy died in November of stomach cancer. Then considering I have drank enough alcohol in the last two years to fill Lake Michigan I am back to paranoia.
